"Preventing Falls" Program on Thursday, March 17

Senior walking

A common worry among the elderly is the fear of falling, but falls are not part of the normal aging process. Many seniors are injured, hospitalized, and even die due to falls. Injuries often occur in the home, but almost all falls are preventable if the necessary safety measures are in place. Join us at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 for this program, presented by Dr. Ola Bamgbose, MD/MPH Clinical Assistant Professor, UIC School of Public Health. The presentation will include a 15-minute video clip and 35-minute lecture. A Q&A session follows. This is a free program, but pre-registration is requested. Please call 847-448-8250. "Preventing Falls" is sponsored by Sunshine Homecare Agency.

Popcorn and a Movie: "A Walk in the Woods" March 25

Popcorn and movie

In this new comedy adventure, celebrated travel writer Bill Bryson challenges himself to hike the Appalachian Trail—2,200 miles of America’s most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine. The peace and tranquility he hopes to find, though, is anything but, once he agrees to being accompanied by the only person he can find willing to join him on the trek—his long lost friend, Katz, a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who sees the trip as a way to sneak out of paying some debts and sneak into one last adventure before it’s too late. The trouble is, the two have completely different definitions of the word, “adventure.” Now they’re about to find out that when you push yourself to the edge, the real fun begins. The movie begins at 1p.m. on Friday, March 25. The cost is $1, Levy members; $5 non-members. Register at the Levy Center or call 847-448-8250 (Class #554104-B6).
