Superior Sentinel - MARCH 2022 |
|
Dear Superior Residents,
On behalf of the Town of Superior Board of Trustees and the entire Town staff, our hearts go out to everyone who has experienced losses from the Marshall Fire on December 30th. None of us ever imagined that we would experience such a horrific event and lose nearly 10% of the homes in our community on that fateful day. As we start to move into the cleanup and re-building phases, we recognize there is a tremendous amount of work ahead for all of us. Please know the Town Board of Trustees and the Town staff have been working continuously for the past two months on the recovery efforts and will continue doing so in the months and years ahead.
The remainder of this message was originally drafted for the January Sentinel but was postponed during the immediate response to the fire. Each year I like to start with a quick recap of the past year and highlight a couple of new things for the coming year.

Town Approves First Sustainability Action Plan
In January, the Town Board of Trustees approved the Town’s Sustainability Action Plan. Over 100 actions are proposed within this plan to curb the impacts of climate change and other negative impacts to our health and environment, as well as help our community adapt to the changes we are already experiencing.
Adoption of this plan is the first step to ensure we reduce our community’s impact on climate change, increase community resilience, invest in a greener economy, and create equitable opportunity to thrive for all residents.
You can view the entire plan and the steps taken to create it at ShapeSuperior.com.

Drinking Water Information - Marshall Fire Impact
The Town’s water treatment facilities suffered damage from the Marshall Fire and ash was deposited on and near the Town’s water storage reservoir. The Town’s treatment capabilities have been restored and the Town has flushed its distribution network but a smoky taste and odor has impacted several homes. Several measures are being taken to deal with this issue. Despite these aesthetic issues, the water in Superior continues to meet the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment drinking water standards. For more information about this issue and to see testing results, please visit the Smoky Water (Marshall Fire) webpage.
Pothole Reporting
Along with spring blooms, the change of season often brings potholes in our roadways. If you notice a pothole that you would like to report, please use the Superior Click and Fix app to report it. You may also contact the Public Works and Utilities Department at 303-499-3675.
