The "Safer At Home" order continues to affect raptor monitoring, but volunteers are still reporting raptor sightings!
So far the Raptor Monitoring Program has identified 13 raptor species during official observations. Currently, we are aware of four active Great Horned Owl nests, we are keeping tabs on three Red-tailed Hawk nests and it appears that the American Kestrel nest box in Community Park is being used. Also, several Cooper's Hawk nests are under construction and at least one may have eggs. Do you want to volunteer in the Raptor Monitoring Program? If so, please contact Peter Ruprecht at pruprecht@gmail.com.

The Town is working with Mutton Mowers this summer to pilot open space weed mitigation with the use of goats! The goats plus one lama will be put to work grazing on noxious weeds and over-grown areas of open space that are particularly difficult to manage due to steep slopes and other factors. The goats will munch away the weeds while tilling the soil with their hooves. The Town can then re-seed these areas with desirable native open space ground cover. Vinny the lama will watch over the goats and deter any predators. The initial pilot location for the Mutton Mower goats will be in Castle Park, a 7-acre site in South Superior. The goat operation will begin in June and extend for approximately 45 days. Residents are encouraged to keep distance from the goats to maximize their grazing efforts. See more photos.
