Message From the Mayor

Dear Residents,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Season with family and friends. As we begin a new year and a new decade, I would like to summarize a few things we will see around Town this coming year. These are just some of the highlights, and I am sure there will be many more exciting developments in the weeks and months ahead.

Downtown Superior
Progress at the Downtown Superior development continues with lots of new activity scheduled in 2020 and beyond. Since the Downtown Superior development was initially approved in 2013, we’ve all been anxiously waiting for the “downtown” to accompany the Sport Stable and the hundreds of residential homes and townhomes that have already been built. The new downtown core will include a public plaza, restaurants, and retail shops that will all create a local, urban, downtown environment for all of Superior to enjoy. I’m pleased to report that on December 9th the Town Board of Trustees unanimously approved the Morgan-Ranch final development plans for this much anticipated downtown core area of the development. The centerpiece will be a 50,000 SF outdoor plaza with a splash pad and stage area that will serve as the central, everyday gathering space and in the years to come, could serve as a new location for farmers markets and other Town events. As part of the development, there will also be a community center space conveyed to the town and two new parks constructed along the Coal Creek Regional Trail with a promenade walkway to connect these amenities with the downtown plaza. Of the many development plans that I have reviewed over my eleven years serving on the Planning Commission and Town Board as Mayor, I am most proud of this monumental development approval. The Morgan-Ranch Downtown Superior development is truly a defining moment for the future of our town that will live on for generations, and I’m proud to have played a role in the approval process. Community Center at 1500 Coalton Road
During 2019 the Town Board purchased the former Land Rover dealership building at 1500 Coalton Road. An architectural firm is already hard at work with the Town Board designing new community-focused uses for the 15,000 SF space. We are working diligently to get plans finalized and construction underway so the facility can be placed into use by the end of 2020, if not sooner. We need your ideas, input and feedback NOW. Please see details below regarding public engagement sessions that will be held in January. We’ve needed indoor community gathering space in Superior. It’s here and we just need to put the final details in place with your help!

One of the many things that makes Superior a great place to live is our diverse selection of community events throughout the year. Be sure to check future newsletters for details and mark your calendars for these fun events in 2020:

  • Arbor Day Celebration – April
  • State of Superior, Mayor & Manager Update – April 21
  • Morgul Bike Race – May
  • Superior Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner – June 3
  • 4th of July Parade and Pancake Festival
  • Trails and Wildlife events – dates to be announced throughout the year
  • Cultural Arts and Public Space Advisory Committee events – dates to be announced throughout the year
  • Chili Fest – September
  • Superior Chamber of Commerce 5K Race – September 12
  • Oktoberfest by Rock Creek HOA – October
  • Skate with Santa at the Sport Stable – December 12

Best wishes as we start the new year and I look forward to seeing you around Town! Please email Mayor Folsom with your questions or comments: clintf@superiorcolorado.gov

1500 Coalton Road Community Engagement Begins

Land Rover building

The Town Board and staff have been working diligently with architects to formulate initial design concepts for improvements to the building and land at 1500 Coalton Road (the former Land Rover) for the purpose of community space. The next step in the process is to gather feedback from the Superior community.

Community Engagement will feature two identical, on-site meetings where residents will have an opportunity to interact with facilitators and architects regarding the new designs and how they would like to use the community spaces. Please choose one the following dates to join us: Thursday, January 16th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. or Sunday, January 19th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. These meetings will occur at the 1500 Coalton Road building. If you are not able to attend one of these in-person meetings, online community engagement will also be available in mid-January. Look for details soon.

Verizon Improving Superior Coverage Area

Verizon Wireless logo

The Town has been working with Verizon Wireless this year to identify methods to enhance coverage and capacity for their users in our community. The firm is in the process of finalizing plans to install a combination of small cell sites under a lease agreement approved by the Town earlier this year, and a proposed ball field light replacement pole at Community Park. This work is planned for next year and scheduled to be operational next summer. These enhancements are intended to improve service where gaps currently exist in Superior. Once completed, Verizon will review to determine whether additional installations may be necessary to ensure sufficient service.

Stay Connected Superior!

Get Connected graphic

A few months back, the Town implemented a new "eblast" email subscription service, GovDelivery, to make it easier for you to learn about updates on the news and topics that interest you.

In our ongoing effort to stay connected with residents and visitors alike, the Town of Superior uses several tools to provide you with timely information about Town Board and Advisory Committee meetings and agendas, Community Events and Programs, Construction projects and updates, and other important news and alerts. The Town’s transition to GovDelivery is part of this larger effort to connect and curate information access for our community – and to tailor this information by topic and how you wish to receive it.
