Groundwater recharge seminar set for next month
On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the State Water Resources Control Board will host a virtual workshop for public entities and individuals interested in diverting floodwaters for groundwater recharge. The workshop will cover how Section 1242.1 of the California Water Code may allow for the diversion of flood waters for groundwater recharge in the coming wet season. The presentations will provide tips and tools for diversion reporting.
Weather data tool to be presented at committee meeting
Next week’s meeting of the Central Valley Flood Protection Board Coordinating Committee will include a presentation of a DWR statistical tool used to simulate long-term sequences of daily weather data. A stochastic weather generator (WGEN) provides high-resolution, daily weather simulations over periods of as much as 1,000 years. DWR's WGEN will help with the study of typical weather patterns and rare events such as extreme floods or droughts. The meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 24, in West Sacramento.
Wildfire protection projects receive $90 million in grants
Forest resilience task force meeting in South Lake Tahoe
The next regional meeting of the California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force will be Oct. 9–11, in South Lake Tahoe. The task force and CAL FIRE will unveil tools that track the progress being made toward improving wildfire and landscape resilience. The first and third day of the regional meeting will include field tours in the Tahoe area. There is a virtual attendance option for the Oct. 10 session. Registration closes Oct. 3.
Webinars scheduled for wildlife connectivity guidelines
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is holding a series of webinars next month ahead of the release of the Wildlife Connectivity Advance Mitigation Guidelines. There will be two webinars on Friday, Oct. 4: overview of the advance mitigation programs (9 a.m.), and connectivity advance mitigation (11 a.m.). The final webinar, on Tuesday, Oct. 15, will cover regional conservation investment strategies.
California Economic Summit moved to Sacramento
The 2024 California Economic Summit has been moved to Sacramento and will run Oct. 8–10. The summit is designed to create a shared economic agenda known as the Roadmap to Shared Prosperity. The first day will have work group sessions to advance summit goals. The second day will feature sessions with regional business, civic, and State policy leaders discussing critical issues facing California.

California Water Commission meeting canceled
Today's meeting of the California Water Commission has been canceled. The agenda items mentioned in last week's edition of the California Water Plan eNews are expected to be reschedule for consideration at a future meeting.
