CalAIM Updates

CalAIM Corner Newsletter

newsletter

The CalAIM Corner newsletter will now be published every other month as opposed to every month. This is in response to feedback and the frequency of key CalAIM updates.

BHRS staff can find general CalAIM info on the Intranet hub and CalAIM trainings on LMS.

Justice-Involved Initiative

Correctional Health Services (CHS) has postponed the Justice Involved Initiative go-live date to July 1, due to EPIC billing issues. CHS is looking to go-live as soon as the issues can be resolved.

As a reminder, the Justice-Involved Initiative provides services to justice-involved adults and youth while they are incarcerated and as they re-enter their communities.

Contractor Quality Improvement Incentive Program

The CalAIM Contractor Quality Improvement Incentive Program (CQIIP) is underway! This incentive payment program, funded by MHSA, supports mental health and substance use disorder contracted providers as they prepare for changes in CalAIM implementation. All participating contractors submitted their first set of deliverables on time, by December 31, 2024, and received their full incentive.

Program Results

Deliverables were developed in collaboration with CalAIM Steering Committee members, who span BHRS teams.

Feedback

Annya Shapiro at Daly City Youth Health Center shares feedback about deliverable 1c(i) to implement outreach efforts/events to increase access to care:

"Last year we had a total of 54 self referred clients from the community who reached out on their own. This year, it's only been half a year and we have already gotten 51 self referred clients. So the tabling outreach we are doing must be working. Additionally, because we passed the incentive dollars on to our staff and interns, there is more variation in who is engaged in outreach-- the stipend incentivizes a wider range of staff to participate in outreach rather than it being primarily leadership. As a result we had staff and trainees who are more representative of the community doing outreach, which may have an impact on who is accessing our services. There is also less resentment among staff around doing outreach activities because it is financially incentivized."

The next round of Incentive Program deliverables is due May 31, 2025. For questions about the incentive program, email: HS_BHRS_ASK_CALAIM@smcgov.org.
