Santa Clara’s Annual Cleanup Campaign will take place now through May 23. On designated weekends, eligible residences may set out bulky items for collection. Crews will pick-up furniture, appliances, e-waste, tires, residential construction debris, and yard waste.
All concrete, asphalt, dirt, brick, rocks, drywall and/or sawdust must be in a construction debris bulk bag to prevent storm drain pollution. Bag material must be a heavy-duty tarp or plastic specifically for construction debris. Residents may purchase debris bulk bags at a local retailer or the Municipal Utility Services counter, 1500 Warburton Ave. Failure to comply is subject to a $150 fine. One cubic yard of bagged debris is accepted at no charge. Additional material collected at $25/cubic yard. Household hazardous material is not accepted. For complete set-out instructions visit SantaClaraCA.gov/Cleanup.

Pollution prevention starts at home. Trash that ends up in storm drains can travel to creeks, rivers, and eventually the bay, harming wildlife and ecosystems. You can help stop this chain of pollution and protect our natural environment by joining the City of Santa Clara’s cleanup event on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Volunteers will be stationed at a cleanup site to keep trash out of our waterways. Your participation will directly help reduce pollution and improve local habitats. Space is limited, so register today to be part of the solution! For more details and to sign up, visit cleanacreek.org.
The City of Santa Clara will proclaim the week of May 18-24 as National Public Works Week (NPWW) to celebrate the dedicated public works professionals who provide vital infrastructure, facilities, and services to our communities. The Department of Public Works (DPW) collaborates with other City departments to provide critical infrastructure services in transportation, roadway and building maintenance, water and solid waste systems, parks, power, and emergency response. The 2025 NPWW theme of “People, Purpose, Presence” highlights three cornerstone ideals that motivate public works professionals, working in the background to advance quality of life for all. NPWW is a great opportunity to recognize our hardworking staff for the important role they play in helping build a city that is safe, sustainable, and resilient.

Depending on your location in Santa Clara, you receive drinking water blended from three sources: groundwater wells, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta via Valley Water’s groundwater basins and treatment plants and the Tuolumne River via the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Hetch Hetchy system and treatment plants. Each week, staff samples water from 34 stations throughout the City, testing chlorine levels and checking for potential contaminants to ensure water quality and safety. All sources are held to the same standard.
We all have a role to play in protecting our precious water resources, safeguarding public health and ensuring environmental sustainability. This Drinking Water Week, discover how your water is sourced, why infrastructure matters and how you can contribute to a sustainable water future.
