Mentoring in Middle Schools Wraps Up Another Successful Program Year
The Mentoring in Middle Schools program marked its fourth year in 2025-2026, continuing its partnership between the City of Glendale’s Youth & Family Services Unit, Homenetmen Glendale Ararat, and Glendale Unified School District. The program served Emerging English Language Learners at Roosevelt and Toll Middle Schools, providing targeted academic, social, and emotional support.
Students participated in on-campus mentoring and workshops led by community partners, including the Glendale Youth Alliance, Glendale Police and Fire Departments, and Homenetmen coaches. Activities focused on creative expression, social-emotional learning, and college and career readiness.
A total of 20 students successfully completed the program and received certificates recognizing their achievements. Underwater Bottleneck Art Exhibit
Adams Square Mini Park Historic Gas Station 1020 E. Palmer Avenue, Glendale, CA 91205 Now - June 26, 2026
Underwater Bottleneck by Elizabeth Criss and Sari Scheer is on display at the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station from Monday, April 13 – Friday, June 26, 2026. Underwater Bottleneck reimagines the Gas Station as a deep-sea tableau. Schools of fish crafted from discarded plastics and repurposed wine bottles float gracefully overhead, as jellyfish drift above a glowing mound of empty jugs – a scene that reflects both ocean resilience and fragility. Glass bottle fish, filled with plastic debris, reveal the dangers ocean life faces when they mistake our trash for food. This playful transformation invites viewers to reconsider everyday choices and discover creative solutions to marine plastic pollution.
This temporary art installation is generously sponsored by the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission, funded by the Urban Art Program, and supported by Glendale Library, Arts & Culture, Glendale Community Services & Parks, and the Adams Hill Neighborhood Association.
