 Successful Summer Concerts Kids Market
The Community Services & Parks Department in collaboration with Children’s Entrepreneur Market, a non-profit organization, hosted a Summer Concerts Kids Market at Verdugo Park on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, just before the final concert of the Summer Concerts in the Park series at Verdugo Park.
The Children’s Entrepreneur Market is an award-winning program that teaches young people about the power of entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership through experiential learning.
The Summer Concerts Kids Market proved to be a huge success as 27 booths registered to be a part of the market and attracted hundreds of local patrons. Children sold all sorts of products, both handmade and resale items, and were able to practice their entrepreneurial skills during the three-hour event. A local restaurant, Teddy’s Pizzeria, surprised the entrepreneurs by donating pizza for them to enjoy as they sold their products.
The market will return to Glendale in 2025, with more vendors and larger crowds to support our young entrepreneurs.

 Art Exhibit: "Vestiges"
Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station 1020 E. Palmer Ave., Glendale, CA 91205 Through October 4, 2024
A new art exhibit, "Vestiges," is on display through October 4, 2024 at the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station. “Vestiges” obliquely divides the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station into two. Jonna Lee and John David O’Brien each occupy one triangular section of the gas station and place back-to-back modified pieces of furniture containing multiple drawers. Abstracted traces from their own lives emerge suspended and standing from the drawers. The objects used in the installation relate to Lee’s and O’Brien’s overlapping names, much like the Roman mythological figure Janus, who ruled doors, gates, and transitions. The root of both their names results in the two sides of the room to be complementary but in very different arrays.
This temporary art installation is sponsored by the Glendale Arts and Culture Commission through funding from the Urban Art Fund, and support from Glendale Library, Arts & Culture, Glendale Community Services and Parks, and the Adams Hill Neighborhood Association.

Emerald Isle Park Playground Replacement Under Way!
In our ongoing effort to upgrade the City's park facilities, we are replacing the playground at Emerald Isle Park. The existing playground was originally installed over twenty years ago and needs replacement to meet the growing needs of a diverse population.
The Emerald Isle Playground Replacement Project will include demolition and recycling / disposal of the existing equipment, the purchase and installation of new equipment, new poured in place rubberized safety surfacing, shade structures, as well as expansion of the playground to include a play space for children ages 2-to-5 by replacing the sand box adjacent to the existing playground. As part of the project, sidewalk improvements are also required to ensure access meets ADA requirements.
This project is being funded through the State Park’s Prop 68 Per Capita Grant Program, California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) grant, and City of Glendale's General Fund and Development Impact Fees-Quimby funds.
Playground installation began on May 28, 2024, and is expected to be completed in September 2024.
