Join us as we celebrate the City of Fremont’s 70th anniversary, honoring seven decades of community, innovation, and progress. Since its incorporation in 1956, Fremont has grown into the fourth largest city in the Bay Area and one of its most vibrant and diverse communities, making this milestone the perfect time to reflect on our journey and look ahead to the future.
Celebrate with live music featuring the Idea Band, family-friendly activities, and food trucks as we honor Fremont’s history and the people who make it such a great place to live.
Date: Friday, January 23, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Location: Downtown Event Center and Plaza, 3500 Capitol Ave.
Beginning January 1, 2026, rates for garbage, recycling, and compost service with Republic Services will be increased slightly.
Per the City’s solid waste contracts, Fremont’s rates are reviewed and adjusted every two years based on indexes in order to ensure cost recovery. Rate changes for 2026 through 2027 were approved by the Fremont City Council on December 9, 2025. Rates will increase for this next two-year period but remain below the Bay Area average. For more information, refer to the City Council Staff Report.
If your bill includes service for the month of December, the new rates will only be charged for January and February.
For more information about your bill, contact Republic Services at 510-657-3500 or visit their website.
For other inquiries, contact the City’s Environmental Services Division at 510-494-4570 or by email.

The City of Fremont’s “50–50” Programs help property owners save money while maintaining the street trees and sidewalks adjacent to their property.
- Through the 50-50 Street Tree Program, the City will reimburse property owners for 50% of the cost of pruning, removing and replacing, or planting a street tree. Property owners can be reimbursed up to $1,500 per tree (with a maximum of two trees per property.
- The 50-50 Sidewalk Repair Program provides financial assistance for sidewalk, curb, or gutter repairs. Property owners can be reimbursed up to $7,500 per property. This program helps improve safety for pedestrians.
Although property owners are responsible for the care of street trees and the repair of nearby sidewalks, these programs offer financial assistance to help reduce costs. By taking part in these programs, you’ll be limiting your liability, investing in your property, and making your neighborhood safer and more livable. Assistance is available but limited while funds last. Together, we can create greener streets and safer sidewalks for everyone.
