The City of Fremont thanks all who participated and contributed to the development of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. On Tuesday, March 15, the Fremont City Council unanimously adopted the Parks and Recreation Master Plan upon recommendation from the Recreation Commission. Over the last two years, the Master Plan process captured the needs of the community through an extensive public outreach and engagement, coupled with a thorough inventory and assessment of the park system and programs. The information gathered will be used to guide parks, trails and recreation programs and to strategize greater park equity across the city for the next 15-20 years.
Spotlight on Fremont Traffic Signal Modernization
The publication Government Technology recently featured an article on Fremont’s use of modern technology to enhance traffic signal operations, with a focus on faster response times for emergency vehicles and safety for all travelers. A project is currently under construction to upgrade traffic signals along nine miles of Fremont Boulevard, from Ardenwood to South Fremont. The project is planned for completion at the end of this year.

Masks are required to protect the health and safety of both workers and visitors. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Bay Area Community Health receives United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) funding and has Federal Public Health Service (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.
Parents seeking guidance on masking for activities like choir and band should reach out to their school/district. School districts may set requirements for masking in addition to statewide guidance. In general, masks are no longer required for the activities like choir and band, but they are strongly recommended. If masks can’t be worn due to heavy exertion or bell covers aren’t worn on wind instruments, at least once weekly screening testing is strong recommended. For more information visit K-12 Guidance 2021-22 School Year (ca.gov).
The past two years of COVID-19 has dramatically impacted the mental health and well-being of many community members. The COVID-19 Pandemic experience is as much a mental health pandemic as one of infectious disease. It’s important to spend more time and energy promoting mental wellness across our community, with a focus on identifying stress and minimizing burnout. There are actions we can promote in our lives and the lives of others to create a better sense of wellness like self-care, maintenance of routines to capture a sense of normal, and learning to cope with inevitable stress in healthy ways.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated COVID-19 community levels. On March 10, CDC classified Alameda County the low community level. The County continues to recommend that residents follow prevention strategies: stay up to date on vaccines, stay home when sick, wear high quality masks, and get tested if sick.
Wearing a mask indoors is strongly recommended for everyone. If you are considering not wearing a mask, ask yourself the following questions before making a choice that impacts you, your household, and community:
- Are you over age 65 or have a medical issue that puts you at risk of having a severe case of COVID-19?
- Are you missing one or more of your COVID-19 vaccine doses?
- Do you live/visit with people at risk of going to the hospital if they get COVID-19?
- Do you go to work with your co-workers or interact with the public regularly?
- Are cases high where you live or where you are going?
If answering “yes” to any of these questions, wearing a mask may be especially important. Individuals should speak with a medical provider if they are immunocompromised or have other health risks.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends following a layered approach to reduce the spread of COVID-19, this includes strong ventilation indoors. Open outdoor air dampers beyond minimum settings to reduce or eliminate HVAC air recirculation. Open windows and doors, when weather conditions allow, to increase outdoor air flow. Use fans to increase the effectiveness of open window. For more information, please visit the CDC’s tips for improving ventilation in your home.
Alameda County encourages residents to get vaccinated and boosted for protection against COVID. Vaccination remains the leading public health strategy to prevent severe disease and deaths from COVID-19. Vaccination protects adults and children ages 5 years and older from getting sick or severely ill with COVID-19 and helps protect those around them. For more information about vaccine clinics and how to make appointments, visit the county’s vaccine clinic page or myturn.ca.gov.
Free at-home COVID-19 tests are available, especially for students who are returning to school from spring break. Alameda County Office of Education is in the process of distributing testing kits to districts and schools in preparation for spring break. Additional testing kits are also available for households in the U.S. Households may order 4 free at-home, rapid COVID-19 tests via the United States Postal Service.
COVID is still with us. Make the best choices for you and those around you:
- Get vaccinated and boosted.
- Gatherings that are small and outdoors are safer.
- If gathering indoors, use a high-quality mask and improve ventilation for layers of safety.
- Get tested if exposed or sick.
- Stay home if ill, whether you can get tested or not, even if it “feels like” allergies.
The pandemic has increased feelings of isolation and anxiety and impacted mental health and wellbeing. Tips to create a better sense of wellness include:
- Practicing self-care to manage stress.
- Maintaining routines to gain a sense of normalcy during abnormal times.
- Learning to cope with stress in a healthy way to remain more resilient.
- Calling a health provider if stress gets in the way of daily activities several days in a row.
