EL SEGUNDO, CALIF. (February 24, 2023) – William “Bill” Bue led a life guided by faith, patriotism, and public service. Bill grew up in Kansas and served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War before becoming a Baptist Minister. Equally important to Bill was his deep love for baseball, which he coached for 16 years in Kansas and El Segundo. He famously decided to move to El Segundo because of the excellent baseball facilities at Recreation Park he and his sons encountered on their first visit.

Bill moved to El Segundo in 1962 working part time for Dow Machine Shop and Northrop, eventually securing a division manager position with Hughes. In addition to managing little league and Babe Ruth baseball, Bill built a long career serving the City of El Segundo and California. He joined El Segundo City council in 1976, served as Mayor Pro Tem from 1980-1982, and Mayor from 1982-1984. He also served on the Recreation and Parks Commission, El Segundo School Board, City Treasurer, and President of the El Segundo Golf Club, not to mention his many positions serving Los Angeles County and the State of California.

“Bill Bue was and continues to be an inspiration,” said El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles. “Bill was a shining example of serving your family, your community, your faith and your workplace. He will be sorely missed.”

The City is deeply grateful to Bill for his many years of service and sends heartfelt sympathies to his wife, sons, and many grand and great grandchildren. By any measure, Bill lived an extraordinary life, and El Segundo was lucky to be a part of it.
