Public service is a privilege. Being selected to serve as the community’s City Manager is a great honor. As a result, I am humbled by City Council's support and vote of confidence in my abilities to manage the El Segundo city organization during this exciting time.
As a community, El Segundo is experiencing significant change and I look forward to working closely with local residents, businesses, and stakeholders to protect the current high quality of life while providing for a secure future. El Segundo has a long history as a full-service city with a proud tradition of independence and self-confidence. This will allow City Council and staff to build on the successes of the past to prepare for the challenges of tomorrow.
With this goal in mind, I will faithfully implement City Council’s direction to ensure that El Segundo remains a great place to live, work, recreate, and raise a family. This will be achieved by working closely with each City department director and over 300 City employees to foster a culture of accountability, productivity, financial stability, and transparency. All of us will remain focused on providing the highest levels of municipal services and to stay within our limited financial resources provided by hardworking taxpayers.
As City Manager, my door will always be open to any member of the community. Feel free to contact me directly at smitnick@elsegundo.org or (310) 524-2301. I look forward to working for you in order to ensure that the City of El Segundo remains one of the South Bay’s premier cities!

If you are interested in becoming more involved in your community, and how to assist your public safety officers during an emergency, please enroll in July's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy. The El Segundo CERT Academy teaches citizens how to make damage assessments, isolate hazards and assist the injured when local emergency services become overwhelmed. Once you complete the training and earn a certificate, you will become part of the El Segundo team and will be dispatched by your local CERT leader in case of a major emergency. It’s a great way to get involved in the community. Please click here to learn more and sign up.
