New Bike Routes
New bike routes and signs have been installed, increasing the number of safe, and accessible bike routes throughout our city.
A total of 3.4 miles of bike route signage was installed including routes from:
- Main St. from Imperial Highway to El Segundo Blvd.
- Grand Ave. from Loma Vista St. to Duly St.
- Utah Ave. from Douglas St. to Aviation Blvd.
Citywide Light Conversions
Street light retrofits are underway to replace current lamps with more efficient LED lamps. These retrofits are of no cost to the city due to energy cost savings over a 20-year period.
"Warmer" 3000K lamps will be installed in residential areas and "cooler" 4000K lamps will be installed next to major roadways and commercial areas. The brightness is exactly the same between the two, however, the cooler lights are perceived as brighter, which many prefer for business areas, while the warmer lights are preferred for residential areas. Retrofits are expected to be completed by the end of August.
Continuing Street Improvements
In an effort to continuously improve El Segundo roadways, additional street work will continue for the month of July. Surface preparation and a pavement surface treatment known as slurry seal will be applied.
Weather permitting, it will be completed in early August. Construction hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
July 8 - July 17: Mobilization and street preparation July 18 - July 24: Slurry seal resurfacing and temporary street closures July 31 - August 6: Striping and pavement marker installation
Please keep an eye for signage in your area. Streets will be temporarily closed for at least five hours to allow the slurry seal resurfacing to set. Temporary ‘No Parking’ signs will be posted on streets at least 72 hours before it is slurry sealed.

Smoky Hollow and El Segundo Boulevard On-Street Parking Pilot Project
Last fall, the City Council adopted the Smoky Hollow Specific Plan, which includes an increased number of on-street parking spaces in the Smoky Hollow district. When City Council adopted the plan, they included a pilot project to add parking spaces on El Segundo Boulevard on the north side of the street.
The pilot project is scheduled to begin on July 29th and construction will run through early September. The segment of El Segundo Boulevard selected for the pilot project runs from the alley east of Main Street to the alley east of Sheldon Street. Fifteen new parking spaces will be added along El Segundo Boulevard without decreasing the existing number of vehicle travel lanes.
After an evaluation period, the city will decide whether to make the change permanent and extend the new parking lane further east.
