2024 Pedestrian & Bike Safety Education Summary
The Cupertino Safe Routes to School (SR2S) program encourages active transportation for school travel. Since 2020, the City has been developing a comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian education program for elementary and middle school students in Cupertino. Each year, two programs are offered to four grade levels, featuring a combination of in-class lessons and hands-on activities: pedestrian safety for kindergarten and second-grade students, and bike safety for fourth and sixth-grade students. These programs are expanding in reach and are offered annually, as illustrated in the graph above, with plans to expand to all grades K-8. The program is primarily funded through grants from VTA’s 2016 Measure B and the California Office of Traffic Safety, and we are proud to provide this essential education.
