This "very good" rating indicates that our streets show only slight to moderate distress and primarily require preventive maintenance. Cupertino joins Larkspur, Orinda, Palo Alto, Hillsborough, and unincorporated Solano County in this achievement, highlighting City staff’s commitment to maintaining safe and well-kept roads.

Speed Limits Reduced along Five Streets in Cupertino
In response to recent legislation in California aimed at providing greater flexibility in setting and adjusting speed limits, the Transportation Division has reduced speed limits on the street segments listed below:
The old speed limit signs have been replaced with new ones that display the reduced limits, and changeable message boards have been installed to alert drivers to these updates. These reduced speed limits are a vital step in achieving the City’s crash reduction goals outlined in Cupertino’s Vision Zero Action Plan.

Essential Safety Tips for Biking After Dark
As fall arrives it's important to stay safe while biking in the dark. Here are some essential tips:
- Lights: Use a white front light and a red rear light or reflector, as required by California law.
- Clothing: Wear bright, high-visibility colors like yellow or green. Adding reflective details, especially on gloves, can improve visibility.
- Road Position: If there’s no bike lane, take up the full lane to stay visible.
- Signals: Always signal your turns clearly to let others know your intentions.
- Intersections: Make sure to stop at required intersections.
Keep these tips in mind to stay safe and visible this fall!

Kennedy Students Triumph in National Transportation Contest
Cupertino Safe Routes to School proudly recognizes seven students from Kennedy Middle School and their teacher, Mrs. Larson, for winning the 2024 Garrett Morgan Competition. Sponsored by the Mineta Transportation Institute, this competition inspires students nationwide to develop sustainable transportation solutions through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
This year, the theme was #VisionZero2030, aimed at eliminating traffic-related deaths and injuries by 2030. The students proposed innovative hexagonal grooves or bumps on road surfaces to reduce speeding and improve drainage, thereby minimizing accidents during wet conditions.
Congratulations to all!
Cupertino High Students Offer Bike Repairs to FUHSD
Each year, Cupertino's Safe Routes to School (SR2S) program invites two students from each high school to join its monthly Working Group. In 2022, SR2S introduced small grants to empower students to create initiatives that encourage walking and biking on campus.
In 2023, Cupertino High students Raashi Sachdeva and Henry Widjaja proposed bicycle repair services for all five FUHSD high schools. With support from SR2S, they obtained a $10,000 grant from Silicon Valley Clean Energy to host 'Bike Doctor' repair events, which have already serviced over 127 bikes across Cupertino, Homestead, and Monta Vista High Schools.
