The Cupertino Library hosted more than 100 visitors on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as residents sought respite from the heat. Special thanks to Library staff for providing a welcoming space, board games and seating for visitors.
Stay Safe Despite Extreme Heat
Cupertino’s weather may have cooled down slightly, but there is still a risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Follow these 10 tips to stay safe while still enjoying your summer.
- Drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol.
- Limit physical activity: Avoid physical activity during the hottest time of the day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Never leave people or pets in a closed, parked car.
- Stay in air-conditioned areas whenever possible.
- Cool off by taking a bath or shower.
- Wear cool clothing: Lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing may help.
- Do not bundle babies. Please do not put them in blankets or heavy clothing.
- Cover your head. Wear a wide-brimmed, vented hat, or use an umbrella outdoors.
- Wear sunglasses and sunscreen: Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher outdoors.
- Rest often in shady areas. Find shady places to cool down when outdoors.
Call 9-1-1 for life-safety concerns, and check on frail or elderly family, friends, or neighbors. The Cupertino Library will be open during regular hours and is the perfect place to escape the heat!
Summer Music In the Library Courtyard
On Sunday, July 14, Jazz with a Spark returns to Cupertino Library from 2 to 3 p.m. with the Charged Particles. Enjoy a fun afternoon of funky Latin jazz with the Bay Area's favorite quartet. The trio's (quartet's) funky Latin jazz repertoire, blending in elements of classical music, mixes complex orchestration with freewheeling improvisation. The band brings a similar approach to playing their arrangements of jazz standards, each played with a new twist. Everyone is welcome.
The Summer Music in the Courtyard concert series is sponsored by The Cupertino Library Foundation.
