November 26, 2025
Hello,
Congratulations to our 2025 Citizens Academy graduates. Each program ends with a community service project, and this year participants helped beautify the grounds around the Mikolajcik Center. Their work added new life to an important community space. Thank you to the Mikolajcik family and Mid-City Nursery for sponsoring the project and for their long-standing commitment to American Canyon. You can watch a short video of the project on YouTube.
I also invite you to join us for Magic of the Season on Friday, December 5, from 5–8 p.m. at Shenandoah Park. This is one of our most family-friendly events of the year and a great way to start the holidays together. Enjoy local food vendors, support small businesses at the holiday marketplace, and take in performances throughout the evening. Bring the kids for the community tree lighting at 6:30 p.m., which is always a highlight. Thank you to the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce for partnering with us again. Please be aware that nearby streets will be temporarily closed during the event.
And keep the holiday fun going with the 15th Annual Reindeer Run on Saturday, December 6, beginning with pre-race festivities at 8 a.m. at Wetlands Edge Park (2 Eucalyptus Dr.). Participants can choose a 10K run, a 5K run, or a 5K walk. Kids 12 and under can join for just $5 and will receive a finisher’s medal and souvenir antlers. The event supports the American Canyon Community & Parks Foundation and is a great way for families to enjoy festive outdoor time together.
Finally, I want to wish everyone a warm and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday. One thing I’m grateful for is all of you, the people who make American Canyon a great place to call home.
Take care, Jason B. Holley

This week, our community received meaningful recognition at the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) conference, where American Canyon was honored with a Polco Best in Governance Award. This award is based on results from the National Community Survey, which gathers valuable feedback from residents on topics like public safety, education, arts, culture, transportation, and other city services. Out of hundreds of participating communities nationwide, American Canyon was named a finalist in two categories, and we earned the award for excellence in education, arts, and culture.
I want to acknowledge the community partners who played an essential role in this accomplishment. Representatives from the Napa Valley Unified School District, the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce, and the American Canyon Arts Foundation joined us as we accepted this award at our last council meeting. Their programs, leadership, and continued commitment to our residents contribute greatly to the strength and vibrancy of our city.
Also, over the weekend I had the honor of serving as a judge for the Miss Vallejo/Tri City and Miss Napa County competitions. I want to congratulate this year’s winners, including two young women from American Canyon. Mialani Moises Boutain was crowned Miss Teen Vallejo/Tri City, and Milan Alas was named Miss Napa County. We also recognized Stevie Nettles as the new Miss Vallejo. Each of these young leaders demonstrated confidence, poise, and compassion, and I am proud to see them represent our region.

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to extend heartfelt wishes to every family in American Canyon. This season offers an opportunity to reflect on what unites us. I hope you enjoy time with loved ones and find moments of rest and gratitude in the weeks ahead.
Together in service, Mayor Pierre Washington

 Thanksgiving Reminders
Happy Thanksgiving from the City of American Canyon! Here are a few reminders to keep in mind this week:
- City Hall will be closed Nov. 27–28 in observance of the holiday.
- There will be no trash or recycling service on Thanksgiving Day. Thursday pickups will be on Friday, Friday pickups will be on Saturday and regular service resumes Monday, Dec. 1.
- Help prevent costly clogs and protect your pipes this holiday season by keeping FOG (Fats, Oils, and Grease) out of your drains! Pour cooled grease into a sealed container and toss it in the trash — not down the sink.

Only Rain in the Drain
Now that the rainy season is upon us, we need your help to keep American Canyon’s streets and storm drains clear. When leaves pile up in gutters, they can cause flooding, block stormwater flow and harm local waterways. Place leaves in your green waste bin — not the street. Together, we can keep American Canyon safe, clean and flood-free!

Drive Sober, Arrive Safe
This season, the American Canyon Police Department is increasing DUI enforcement to keep our roads safe. If you plan to drink, plan a ride. Don’t put yourself or others at risk. Always designate a sober driver, use a ride share or taxi and never let friends drive impaired.
