Hello,
Our annual Citizens Academy is wrapping up. Participants are getting a first-hand look at how their local government works. This program helps residents understand city operations, meet the staff who provide essential services and learn more about the decisions that shape our community. I want to thank Mid-City Nursery for their generous support of this year’s Academy. They helped design the Academy’s Capstone Project in honor of Mike and Dolly Mikolajcik, the original owners of Mid-City Nursery. The Mikolajcik family continues to play an important role in our community and their contribution is making a meaningful difference for our participants.
In other news, American Canyon was recently recognized as a “Best in Governance” Award Winner for Transformation in Education, Arts, and Culture. This recognition is based on a survey of community members and highlights the work happening across our schools, arts programs and community events. Congratulations to the American Canyon Arts Foundation, the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce and the Napa Valley Unified School District for their partnership and leadership in these areas. We will formally acknowledge the award at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 18, and I invite everyone to attend and help us celebrate this achievement.
Thank you for staying engaged and for supporting the people and programs that keep our community strong.
Take care, Jason B. Holley

Our community had reason to celebrate this week as the American Canyon High School Wolves advanced to the football playoffs. This accomplishment reflects the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes and the steady leadership of Head Coach Marcellus Holmes and his staff. We are proud of their commitment to teamwork, resilience, and school spirit, and we wish them continued success as they move forward in the postseason.
This week also gave us the opportunity to honor our veterans during the Veterans Day Ceremony at American Canyon Middle School. I want to thank Vice Mayor Joseph and Councilmember Cruz for their meaningful roles in the program, and I am grateful to have welcomed Councilmembers Oro and Lamattina, California State Senator Christopher Cabaldon, and Napa County Supervisor Belia Ramos. We also appreciated the thoughtful letter shared on behalf of Congressman Mike Thompson, whose words underscored the importance of recognizing the service and sacrifice of our veterans and their families.
As the federal government reopens and SNAP benefits are restored, local food assistance programs continue to play an important role for households that experienced recent disruptions. Resources such as Community Action Napa Valley, the Free Market, Hands Across the Valley and the countywide information hub at NapaFoodAccess.org remain available to residents. These services help ensure that every family in our community has access to healthy and reliable food options.
Together in service, Mayor Pierre Washington

Drive Sober, Arrive Safe
This season, the American Canyon Police Department is increasing DUI enforcement to keep our roads safe. If you plan to drink, plan a ride. Don’t put yourself or others at risk. Always designate a sober driver, use a ride share or taxi and never let friends drive impaired.
