October 3, 2025
Hello,
Building a connected community starts by giving residents of all ages a chance to see how our city works. Last week we launched our annual Citizens Academy, an eight-week program where participants learn to engage with local government, build connections, and discover the many ways we serve them. Civic learning is not just for adults — thank you to the second graders from Donaldson Way Elementary (along with their teachers and chaperones) for visiting City Hall. Their curiosity was a great reminder that it’s never too early to learn how our community works.
We’re also excited to welcome our Youth Commissioners, who will soon begin serving alongside the Planning Commission; the Open Space, Active Transportation and Sustainability Commission; and the Parks and Community Services Commission. The City Council will officially appoint them at Tuesday’s meeting, with their service running October through May in alignment with the school year. Thank you to these young leaders for their civic spirit and commitment to making a difference in our community.
We’re also proud to highlight the work of Point Blue Conservation Science for restoring native plants along Wetlands Edge Road with funding from Measure AA.

This fall and winter, local students will join in through Point Blue’s Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed (STRAW) program and partnering with the American Canyon Community & Parks Foundation for work near the future Ecology Center site. Together, they’ll support education, restoration and prepare the area for new native plantings.
With October here, we’re celebrating the season with several specials events and opportunities to get involved:
-
Volunteer for The Wall That Heals: This incredible tribute is coming to American Canyon this month, and there are still opportunities to volunteer!
-
American Canyon 4-H Pumpkin Sale: Pick up a pumpkin on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (or until sold out) at 2 Eucalyptus Drive.
-
Pumpkin Path Event: Join the American Canyon Arts Foundation for their annual pumpkin painting in the Wetlands from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Oct. 4! Your pumpkin will be added to the Pumpkin Path for the community to enjoy all month.
-
Parks and Community Services Master Plan Open House: Join us on Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. to help shape the future of American Canyon’s parks, programs and community services.
Thank you for your continued connection to our community. Together, we make American Canyon a place we’re proud to call home.
Take care,
Jason B. Holley City Manager

October is Filipino American History Month, a time to celebrate the history, culture and lasting contribution of Filipino Americans here in American Canyon and across the country. Filipino Americans have enriched our community in countless ways, through family, faith, food, business, education and leadership. You can hear Tagalog spoken in our neighborhoods, see traditions shared at community events and feel the vibrancy that Filipino families bring to our city every day.
As Mayor, I am proud that our City Council values diversity and inclusion, and this month we will recognize Filipino American History Month with an official proclamation at our Oct. 7 Council meeting. We invite our Filipino community to join us that evening to celebrate and accept the proclamation together. In celebration of this month, I also hope you’ll attend the Manila Munchies Night Market event on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 3-9 p.m. at Shenandoah Park. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and your appetite for an afternoon of incredible food, live music, local vendors and community celebration.
This month, and every month, I am grateful to honor the contributions of Filipino Americans, whose stories and leadership make American Canyon stronger, richer and more connected.
Together in service, Mayor Pierre Washington
