Crypto Scam and Online Fraud Alert: Financial Scams on the Rise in Our Community
We're seeing a sharp increase in scams involving cryptocurrency and online sales. Scammers are pressuring victims to send Bitcoin, Ethereum or other digital currencies — transactions that are nearly impossible to reverse.
Common scams include:
Fake crypto investment schemes promising huge returns, impersonation of banks, government agencies, or trusted contacts demanding crypto payments, "tech support" or "account recovery" scams asking for crypto transfers, phishing attempts to steal wallet info or private keys and fraudulent online sales leading to unsafe in-person meetups.
Law enforcement and other government agencies will never call you to demand payment over the phone or online.
Important safety tips:
Legitimate organizations never demand payment in cryptocurrency. Once sent, crypto funds are typically unrecoverable. Never share your wallet passwords or private keys.
When selling or buying items online, always meet in a safe, public place — preferably with surveillance cameras and during daylight hours. Bring a friend or family member if possible and trust your instincts. Verify all offers and payment requests before completing any transaction.
If you think you've been targeted, or feel unsafe during a transaction please call 911.

Public Safety Alert: Rise in Electric Dirt Bikes on City Streets
Our officers have seen a growing number of electric dirt bikes being ridden illegally on public roads, sidewalks and bike paths throughout the city.
Important Safety Reminder
Electric dirt bikes such as Sur-Ron, Talaria, and similar off-road models are not street legal in California unless they meet strict DMV requirements for registration, equipment and insurance. Most do not qualify and cannot be operated on public roads.
These vehicles often lack turn signals, mirrors and license plates. They can reach high speeds, putting riders and pedestrians at risk, and are frequently ridden without helmets or proper safety gear.
What This Means for Riders
Per California Vehicle Code 38025, operating an unregistered or unlicensed electric dirt bike on public roads can result in fines, vehicle impoundment, traffic violations and increased risk of accidents and injuries.
A Message for Parents
Know what your child is riding and where they're riding it. Help keep our community safe by ensuring young riders understand these important safety regulations.
For questions about vehicle registration requirements or safe riding locations, contact the American Canyon Police Department.
