Emergency Food Aid Funding Update
An $18.8M increase in Alameda Social Services Agency (SSA) food aid funding through February 28, 2021 has been approved (see the Board letter) and will allow for an extension of existing food aid services into the new year. With these funds, the County - including many of our ALL IN Eats members - will be able to keep the great work of getting much-needed food into the hands of people in Alameda after CARES funding expires on December 30, 2020. Thank you to SSA Director Lori Cox and her staff for this extension!
Making Circular Food Economy Assets Visible
Several CBOs and other stakeholders have identified their interest in leading an effort in landscape/asset mapping to identify resources (think commercial kitchen space, farmland, vehicles, drivers, recovered food, etc) within the ALL IN Eats community so we can collaborate more efficiently. With an eye to racial and gender equity, we're thinking through how to communicate community-sourced assets in a dashboard that would provide easily-accessible pathways to achieving resource and power justice for marginalized communities. We are also actively working on developing a website and app that could give food entrepreneurs, farmers, food recoverers, and more a platform for distributing their locally-produced food. If you have talents in asset mapping or data visualization, please get in touch with Maryruth: maryruthbelsey.priebe@acgov.org
New Farm Land In the Works!
We’ve started a conversation amongst a variety of ALL IN Eats folks about the possibility of getting some new land (larger parcels) into production around the County! Please keep reading to find out more and discover how to join the ALL IN Eats Farmer Collective! Keep reading...
City-Level Food Recovery Group
There’s a lot of edible food that goes to waste in our County, and we’d love to find ways to get it into the hands of folks who are food insecure. StopWaste is leading an effort to improve our understanding about how to collaborate across municipalities to reduce organic waste like edible recovered food. If you’re a city-level waste manager, please get in touch with us to find out how you can support this work! Find out how to get involved…
