Good morning,
When many people hear Kino Sports Complex, they may immediately think of Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium and baseball. But today, the Pima County Stadium District and Kino Sports Complex are about much more than any one sport, or even sports alone.
Kino is the largest sports and entertainment venue in Southern Arizona, hosting youth and amateur leagues, professional and international competitions, tournaments, concerts, cultural gatherings, community events and business functions throughout the year. The complex includes baseball and soccer facilities, long-sport fields for football, rugby and lacrosse, pickleball courts, parks, walking and recreation areas, and field and event spaces available for public and private use.
Those visitors stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, shop in our businesses and experience what Pima County has to offer. That's an important part of the Stadium District's mission: providing recreational opportunities for our residents while using sports and entertainment as an economic-development and tourism engine for the entire region.
And Kino continues to evolve. What began as a Major League Baseball spring-training facility has grown into a busy, multi-use community asset with activity more than 360 days a year, and with the development of Mosaic Quarter, the next chapter is already taking shape.
On Inside Pima County with Rex Scott, I sat down with Director, Sarah Hanna to take a closer look at the Stadium District and Kino Sports Complex. We talked about what happens behind the scenes, the many ways Kino serves Pima County residents, its economic impact, and its growing role as a regional sports and entertainment destination. ICCU Mosaic Quarter is Taking Shape
Construction continues to move forward at ICCU Mosaic Quarter, the sports and entertainment destination rising alongside Kino Sports Complex. ICCU Mosaic Quarter is owned by Mosaic Quarter Development LLC, which leases the land from Pima County and is financing, building and operating the new venues and all of the site infrastructure that supports them.
Phase I construction is well underway on ICCU Iceplex, ICCU Field House and MQ Crossing. The roadway, utility and site improvements supporting the new venues are also privately funded as part of the project. ICCU Iceplex and MQ Crossing are expected to open in spring 2027, followed by ICCU Field House in summer 2027.
Once open, these venues will draw larger tournaments, competitions and events from across Arizona and beyond, bringing athletes, families and visitors to our region and supporting local hotels, restaurants and businesses.
Pima County residents will also gain new opportunities for youth and amateur sports, recreation, training and community events close to home. The project will support jobs and economic activity, and visitor spending will help strengthen businesses throughout our region.
ICCU Mosaic Quarter is more than a set of new sports facilities. It is a significant private investment in our regional economy, tourism and quality of life, and a clear example of how leasing County land can bring new investment and activity to a public asset.
