Cleaning up more than just dog kennels
An update from Steve Kozachik, PACC Director Sept. 21, 2026
Earlier this year, the Pima County Communications Department reached out to see if PACC would like to collaborate in a roadway clean-up program. The road selected was Sweetwater, which is essentially our main driveway. So, how could we refuse?
Our first cleaning day took place on a toasty day in June, so that the groups could establish the "ownership" of the road. Now that we have it, we'll be focusing on cooler weather days going forward.
In total, we had between 15 and 20 people, a combination of Communications Department staff, volunteers and PACC staff. The clean up included a 2 mile stretch of Sweetwater (actually 1 mile, but we did both sides of the road, so we get credit.)

The Pima County Department of Transportation runs the Adopt-a-Roadway program. If your group would like to get involved in keeping the county clean, check out the program guidelines.
At PACC, we’re grateful to the Comms folks for having taken the lead on getting this moving on Sweetwater. And of course, we’re grateful to our volunteers who stepped up and got involved in this effort, even though it was outside our gates. The unstated hook was that each mile cleaned through this program saves the county taxpayers about $250. Add them up and that’s real money – and nicer looking roadways.
