Good morning,
With the continued unpredictability in both Federal and State funding sources, developing this year’s budget has been more challenging than ever. The Board has been receiving regular updates from our County Administrator and her staff regarding recent Federal and State policy changes that are negatively impacting Pima County.
As Pima County’s representative on the County Supervisors Association’s Legislative Policy Committee, I also receive similar updates at the state level. Policy shifts are happening at such an accelerated pace that having access to these knowledgeable resources, whose job it is to monitor legislative activity and executive actions, is incredibly valuable.
At Tuesday’s Board meeting, in accordance with state statute, we voted on the tentative Fiscal Year 2025/26 budget. This action sets the maximum spending limit for the County and establishes the highest allowable tax rates. The vote on the final, therefore adopted, Fiscal Year 2025/26 budget will take place at our June 17, 2025, Board meeting. Until then, funds can still be reallocated between departments and budget totals can be lowered but not increased beyond Tuesday's approved maximum spending limit.
