A message from Supervisor Gates

Dear friends,

2017 was a great first year in office as your Maricopa County District 3 Supervisor. As we head into a promising 2018, let us reflect back on some highlights from last year. Below you will find a graphic that links to our full 2017 report from the District 3 office.

As 2018 ramps up, I look forward to seeing you all at County Coffee and New River Desert Hills community meetings. Please note that our April County Coffee will be combined with our Farm Bureau breakfast held on April 5.

2017 in Review & 2018 Priorities

Gates Year in review

Above is a snapshot of my first year in office.  You can view my entire 2017 year in review report by clicking on the picture. I look forward to focusing on the following in 2018.

  1. Public safety for Maricopa County residents
  2. EPCOR Water standpipe completion
  3. Maintain a low property tax burden on our residents
  4. Ensure a successful election plan and completion of both the Congressional District 8 Special Election and 2018 Statewide Elections
  5. Review of the 1999 New River / Daisy Mountain Area Plan
  6. Work with the Arizona Department of Real Estate to eliminate illegal lot splits
  7. Identify efficiencies and improve service to the community through technology
  8. Continue to work with Arizona State Land Department to facilitate the completion of the Maricopa Trail
  9. Ensure a balanced and responsible budget by working with other county elected officials and county departments

Supervisor Gates, the Board of Supervisors and Sheriff Penzone stand with Deputy Brigette McBride and Deputy Hero who the board voted to retire and transfer ownerership to Deputy McBride.

Military Career Event - March 7

Are you looking for a career with a company who supports and values your military service? The  next Best Companies AZ career event is open to all military veterans, their spouses and transitioning military. And it’s not only a traditional job fair but is a hiring event where candidates can potentially have interviews on the day of the event.

Calling all 3rd-6th Graders - Creativity Needed!

Maricopa County Stormwater Pollution Poster Contest is back!

Who Can Enter? Any student in 3rd- 6th grade can enter. Entries are divided into two categories: 3rd/4th and 5th/6th 

How to Enter? Send submissions to:

Maricopa County Environmental Services Department
Stormwater Quality Program “Poster Contest”
1001 N Central Ave, Ste 301
Phoenix, AZ 85004

When to Enter? All entries must be postmarked by March 23, 2018

Other Requirements:
• Poster size must be 8 ½” x 11”
• Artwork must be original (do not include brand names); any art medium is acceptable
• Poster must use the theme “Be in the Stormwater Know: Where Does it Go?” and include a brief message and/or picture that support this theme. Image should be large enough to be easily seen and understood. Posters will be judged on originality, artwork, and message delivery.  
• Entries must have the following information on the back of the poster: Student Name, Grade, Teacher’s Name, School Name, Address, and Phone Number

By submitting artwork, the artist grants Maricopa County the permission to reproduce and display his/her artwork for use in the County’s Stormwater Program. Entries will not be returned.

This year’s poster contest was made possible with the support of the following organizations: Arizona State Parks, Desert Botanical Gardens, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation, Maricopa County Public Library, Phoenix Suns, and Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium and Safari Park.

LD28 library drive

Supervisor Gates joins LD28 for their School Literacy Celebration. The Supervisor aided precinct committee members as they collected books to benefit the Open Door Fellowship Church, schools, and libraries in the 19 North neighborhood.

Maricopa County Clerk of the Superior Court Extended Hours

The Clerk’s downtown Phoenix location will be open on Saturday, February 10 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. issuing marriage licenses and processing passport applications. This is the Saturday before the Clerk’s highest volume day for marriage licenses—Valentine’s Day.

Did you know the Clerk’s office now accepts online appointments for issuing marriage licenses and processing passport applications at its regional locations (Customer Service Center, Southeast Court Complex, Northeast Regional Court, and Northwest Regional Court)? From the Clerk’s website, customers will use a “Book Now” button that will take them to the Clerk’s Appointment Plus website to schedule the customer’s time, location, and services. The “Book Now” button will be on the Clerk’s marriage license webpage.
