UPDATE: Plan for lane restrictions on Interstate 40 in Flagstaff through the end of July

Drivers should expect delays, use caution and allow extra travel time

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers who travel Interstate 40 in Flagstaff to continue planning for ongoing lane restrictions  from the junction with I-17 (milepost 195) to Country Club Drive (milepost 201) through the end of July.

The following overnight restrictions will occur from 7 p.m. Sunday, June 20, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 23:

  • Eastbound I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in work areas between Butler Avenue (milepost 198) and Country Club Drive (milepost 201).
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph.
  • A 16-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.

The following around-the-clock restrictions will occur from 7 p.m. Monday, June 21, to 6 a.m. Friday, June 25:

  • Westbound I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in work areas between Country Club Drive (milepost 201) and Butler Avenue (milepost 198).
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph.
  • A 16-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.

The following overnight restrictions will occur from 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, to 6 a.m. Friday, June 25:

  • Westbound I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in work areas between Country Club Drive (milepost 201) and Butler Avenue (milepost 198).
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph.
  • A 16-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.

The following overnight restrictions will occur from 7 p.m. Sunday, June 27 to 6 a.m. Friday,  July 2:

  • Westbound I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in work areas between west of Butler Avenue (milepost 198) and the junction with I-17 (milepost 195).
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph.
  • A 16-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.

The following around-the-clock restrictions will occur from 7 p.m. Monday, June 28, to 6 a.m. Friday, July 2:

  • Westbound I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in work areas near the junction with I-17 (between mileposts 196 – 195).
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph.
  • A 16-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.

The pavement preservation work is part of a larger ADOT project currently underway to improve the roadway and traffic interchanges along a 10-mile stretch of I-40 between Interstate 17 (milepost 195) and Walnut Canyon Road (milepost 205). Since 2016, ADOT has replaced about 90 miles of pavement and repaired, upgraded or replaced 35 bridges along I-40. For more information, visit the project webpage: azdot.gov/I40WalnutCanyonRd

ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution around personnel and equipment while pavement repairs are underway.
