Weekly Welcome

Dear Washington Families and Communities,

Happy Child Abuse Prevention month! In April, we collaborate with Prevent Child Abuse America to promote child abuse prevention efforts across Washington state.

On April 5, a small team of volunteers met at the Washington State Capitol grounds to plant Pinwheels for Prevention! Other partners have planted pinwheels across the state.

Every April, Child Abuse Prevention Month focuses on the importance of ensuring children feel safe and protected, families are supported, and efforts to end child abuse and neglect are ongoing. To recognize this work and promote awareness, DCYF has developed a digital media kit that includes publications, videos, social media posts, and more for individuals and community organizations to use.

View or download the full digital media kit at https://dcyf.wa.gov/news/dcyf-launches-first-digital-media-kit-child-abuse-prevention-month.

All the best,

Joy Lile, Ph.D., Community Prevention Specialist, DCYF

Several SFL communities invested in new opportunities for families to grow their relationships with each other. Creating containers for connection reduced isolation, made positive memories, and sparked organic mutual aid.

“Some of these social events we put on are so impactful. While the kids are having a good time, and moms can have more conversations organically.” SFL Priority Project Implementor
