Diabetes Care and Education
The Montana Youth Diabetes Alliance (MYDA) is a 501C3 organization that started in 2019 to fulfill the unmet needs of the Montana youth Type 1 diabetes community. The mission is to enrich the lives of youth with type 1 diabetes and their families while offering safe, fun, and educational opportunities through camps and other events. MYDA also provides financial assistance for out-of-pocket expenses associated with self-management supplies, and offers networking resources to navigate diabetes-related support systems.

Camp MYDA was held the week of Aug 15 – 19th at Flathead Lake – five fun-filled days of lake swimming, dance-moves, blood sugar checks, games, bon fires, insulin boluses, stories, and just being a kid! Camp is meticulously planned, with lots of volunteer medical staff (pediatric endocrinologists, nurses, dietitian/nutritionists, CDCES’s, NP’s, PA’s, and more!). It’s an incredible opportunity for kids to learn that they’re just like everyone else except, as one camper’s t-shirt read, “insulin sold separately.”

Diabetes Prevention Program
One in three Montanans have prediabetes. It's very likely you have patients, friends, or even family members who are undiagnosed or unaware of they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
The MDP has put together a webpage with helpful information including the Risk Test and our many Diabetes Prevention Program. It can be easily shared or accessed through the link or QR Code below.
Download and print or share this QR code to access our DPP website. Feel free to use it in any educational material you create.
Three new online DPPs offered this fall:
- Benefis Health System, Great Falls, will be offering one starting August 29th
- Gallatin City-County Health Department will be offering one starting September 7th
- Holy Rosary, Miles City, will be offering one starting September 8th
Enrollment is open to anyone from Montana. Register, refer, or see DPP options available!
Quality Improvement
In many offices, especially primary care, diabetes is not the main focus of practice. This can lead to inconsistent practices among providers, missed opportunities, and a great chance for improvement.
The Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes is a long-standing go-to for guidance. However, an abridged version is available for primary care practices. This include tips, tools, guidance, and visual guides to improve care.
Consider referencing these abridged Standards of Care in your setting. Guidance, like the graphic above, could provide the tools to you need to help implement better care practices.
Please share with colleagues, friends, and family. Encourage them to subscribe!
