Law Enforcement Appreciation Month

LEAP 1

My first legislative initiative was a resolution officially designating September as Law Enforcement Appreciation Month. I felt strongly that the Metro Council should express its deep gratitude to the brave men and women in our community who put their own safety on the line to protect others. I’m proud to share that the resolution received unanimous support from the Council.

To mark this month of recognition, we convened a special meeting of the Public Safety Committee to honor the Officer of the Year from each of the eight divisions of the Louisville Metro Police Department. Council Members also stepped up in a meaningful way—sponsoring catered meals for each division and assembling gift bags as tokens of appreciation. Many of us attended these events in person to thank our officers directly and let them know how much their service means to our city.

Latest Information for Mitchell Hill Rd.

Mitchell

Overview

Mitchell Hill Road in Fairdale, north of Top Hill Road, was severely damaged during a February flooding event and remains closed for safety reasons. We understand how important this section of road is to the residents who used it for daily travel and how disruptive its closure has been. The Louisville Department of Transportation is committed to restoring it, but this type of repair takes time.

Repair updates

Here's where we are in the process and next steps:

Geotechnical report: A geotechnical report is in progress. Before any design or construction can begin, engineers must study the soil and ground conditions to understand how flooding affected the stability of the roadbed. This step is needed to make the repairs safe and long-lasting.

You can learn more about the geotechnical report by viewing this PDF.

Design: Once the geotechnical report is complete, the information is used to design a road and drainage system that can withstand future storms. The design must be carefully reviewed and approved.

Construction: After the design is finalized, construction can begin. Given the scale of damage and the need for federal coordination with FEMA, this will be a major project.

Timeline: We are currently working with a contractor and FEMA to move the project forward. Based on the required steps, construction is expected to begin and end mid to late 2026.

We appreciate your patience as we work toward a permanent solution. Our goal is not just to reopen the road, but to make sure it’s stronger and safer for years to come.

  • Adoptable cat of the week is.. Huda! (attached) After Cardi B’s new album dropped, Huda took on a whole new persona. She’s convinced she’s that girl now pretty, petty, and not afraid to let you know it. She’s got that baddie energy, tossing side-eyes and acting like every track was written for her. Her fave lyric? “Real mad cause you built like your dad.” If you’re ready for a cat with sass, style, and baddie vibes, Huda’s waiting to make your home her stage. Planning & Zoning Notices for District 13

Metro Seal 100x100

Property Address: Swart Mini-Storage, 10507 W. Manslick Rd.

Case Number: 25-WAIVER-0158

Case Information: The applicant has been requested to provide animating features on its buildings in compliance with LDC Section 5.6.1.A.1 which states that “there shall be no blank walls facing public streets, sidewalks, and adjacent front yards of residential uses.” We do not believe that a waiver is needed as the “front yard” of the residential property to the west does not actually face Manslick Road, but actually faces north. Additionally, there is no “front yard” for the apartments to the east. Lastly, and most importantly, the animating features are being provided for the long wall of the building facing and adjacent to Manslick Road

For more information, please click HERE.

Property Address:   W. Manslick Min-Storage, 10507 W. Manslick Rd.

Case Number: 25-ZONEPA-00429

Case Information:  Zone change from R-4 to C-2, a Conditional Use Permit to allow mini-warehouse (LDC 4.2.35) and a Form District Change to Village Center on 6.5 acres.

For more information, please click HERE.

Property Address: 1305 Fairdale Rd.

Case Number: 25-ZONEPA-0110

Case Information: A change in zoning pre-application from M-3 and R-4 to M-2 for a proposed contractor's shop on 3 acres.
