My love for food was born out of necessity as the oldest of 17 children. Growing up in Ivory Coast, I was responsible for cooking for my entire family. Though it was hard work, it taught me the importance of cooking with care and creating meals that brought people together. Over the years, friends and family would always compliment my cooking, and I knew I had a gift. It wasn’t just about food—it was about connection, community, and love.

Eden & Kissi is more than a restaurant; it’s a celebration of culture, heritage, and new beginnings. Every meal we prepare is a reflection of my journey, from Africa to the United States, from a small tent to a thriving restaurant. 

District 10 Spotlight on...Eden and Kissi! 

Eden and Kissi is at 3912 Bardstown Road, Suite 101 and open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering homemade Afro-Caribbean cuisine. They offer takeout and are on Facebook and Instagram.  Dishes include Jamaican Jerk Chicken wings and dinners, curry chicken with rice, fish, along with daily specials.

District 10's Ava Evans assisted the Louisville Metro Council last evening as a page. Ava, daughter of Shauna and Jonathan Evans, is a fifth grader at Tully Elementary,  involved in Quick Recall and floor hockey. An aspiring author, she loves to read.  At left, Councilwoman Raymond gave Ava instructions on gavel operation.

At right, Ava and fellow page Elshama Ganza, representing District 17, listened to the meeting as she read Robert's Rules of Order.  We hope to see Ava back in council chambers again, as guest, community organizer, or councilwoman! Thank you, Ava!

Three ways to report potholes to Public Works: 

1. Report online. An online map shows the current status of reports to Public Works.

Mardi Gras is Tuesday, March 4! 

Mardi Gras is right around the corner, so laissez les bons temps rouler! (Let the good times roll!) Catholic Charities is hosting the 6th Annual Rouler fundraiser Tuesday 5:30 to 9 p.m. offering New Orleans inspired foods and drinks, bingo, casino games, and more. Rouler is at Mellwood Arts Center.

Questions we get: What's up with the QuieterHome Program?

We were asked about the Airport Authority's QuieterHome Program at a meeting this week. 

The Louisville Regional Airport Authority (LRAA) is responsible for working with the FAA, airlines, airport users and neighbors in the community regarding mitigation efforts to minimize airport noise inside residential homes. Working with the FAA and C&S Engineers, the LRAA has developed and implemented the QuieterHome® Program to administer these improvements. 

The FAA determines eligibility based on the level of aircraft noise impacting the home. The program is implemented in groups based on available funding. Homeowners currently in eligible areas of the Louisville QuieterHome Program will be contacted by the QuieterHome project office. If you have questions on program eligibility, please contact the project manager at 636‐2448. 

March 8 - Cafe LOUIE at Bon Air Library

Councilwoman Raymond will join State Senator Cassie Armstrong, State Representative Daniel Grossberg, and Councilwoman Ginny Mulvey-Woolridge at the Bon Air Library, 2916 Del Rio Place, March 8 from 9 to 10 a.m. for Meet Your Legislators at the Louisville Free Public Library.

Step into Wellness with the new Louisville Zoo Walking Club

Free registration at the Zoo daily from 8 - 9:15 a.m. The Louisville Zoo Walking Club is reopening with a new name and new way to join! From March 1 through October 31, participants are invited to walk the Zoo before regular hours and watch as the Zoo wakes up during this free program. Entry is from 8 to 9:15 a.m., with exit by 9:30 a.m. Membership to the Zoo is not required to enroll in the Walking Club. Walkers must simply register in person at the Zoo’s entrance before their first walk. Registration is available daily during program hours. After registering, members will receive a Walking Club membership card for quick entry on future visits. The one-mile, paved walking loop includes both flat areas and hilly terrain, with directional signs to keep walkers on track. Zoo exhibits, concessions, rentals, and other services are not open during Walking Club hours. If walkers wish to see the animals, they must re-enter the Zoo via the front gate at 10 a.m. with a paid admission receipt or Zoo membership.

LIHEAP Winter Crisis enrollment continues

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Winter Crisis enrollment continues through the Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services. Appointments are required in advance to apply. Eligible households can apply for one or both LIHEAP Winter Crisis and MSD’s EWRAP (Emergency Wastewater Rate Assistance Program) with one single appointment. Read more about EWRAP here.   Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis through March 31, or until designated funds have been expended. Jefferson County residents meeting eligibility can call the automated scheduler at 991-8391 or visit online at louisvilleky.cascheduler.com.

Sign up for Parks' Spring Break Camps for youth March 31 to April 4

Louisville Parks and Recreation is offering opportunities for kids to stay active while on spring break. Centers that will offer traditional Spring Break Camps March 31 to April 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., are Metro Arts, Molly Leonard Portland, Sun Valley, Beechmont, Berrytown, Douglass and Cyril Allgeier. Participants must be 5-12 years of age for all camps except Metro Arts, which is for ages 9-12. The cost of Spring Break Camp is $60 per camper. Youths will enjoy a range of activities including athletics, games, crafts and a field trip. Spots are limited, register a child here.

March 9 - next tour at the Louisville Water Tower

The Louisville Water Tower is one of Louisville's eight national historic landmarks and a must-see for both locals and tourists. Fun fact: It's actually the oldest water tower in the U.S.! The tower opens its doors to the public on the second Sunday of every month. Next up is March 9. Residents can purchase tickets here.

April 13 - Parade Day for Germantown Baseball, Softball, and Tee Ball

Mark your calendars for the traditional parade on April 13, which starts at 2 p.m. at Audubon Elementary and ends at Germantown Ballfield, 1537 Poplar Level Road.  Support the kids of our community starting their spring season of baseball, softball, and tee ball.

Louisville Metro FY26 External Agency Fund grant applications open through March 3

Applications are being accepted for FY 26 External Agency Fund grants through March 3. These grants are awarded annually to qualifying nonprofit organizations offering social services or programs in Louisville/Jefferson County. EAF grants provide critical funding to nonprofits serving Louisville’s diverse community needs. Once applications are submitted, they enter a competitive process and are scored by a panel based on impact and measurable outcomes. Successful applicants’ proposals will be recommended for funding in the mayor’s FY 26 budget proposal to Metro Council.

Each of the following Louisville Metro agencies will administer the EAF Funds:

• Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods: Youth Engagement Services Funding
• Office of Resilience and Community Services: Community Services Funding
• Office of Arts + Creative Industries: Arts, Heritage, and Creative Industry Funding

Short term rental enforcement continues in large part to be complaint-driven, based on public reporting of alleged violations to administrators. An interactive map tool contains all of the registered short term rentals in Louisville having an active permit to rent their property out to paying customers on STR websites like Airbnb.

If you believe someone is using a property as a short term rental but it does not show up on this registry, or if the registry indicates a non-owner occupied property does not have a CUP, then please report the issue here (select “Zoning and Business Concerns,” “Zoning Concern,” “Short Term Rental,” complete the form and submit).
