The Louisville Metro Council’s Public Safety Committee will hold a special meeting TODAY, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. at the Newburg Community Center, 4810 Exeter Avenue.

The meeting will include a brief presentation from the Mayor’s Administration and the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) on the enforcement of the mask ordinance. Afterward, community members will have the opportunity to address the committee, sharing suggestions on public safety and providing feedback on the mask ordinance.

Public Comment:

Community members are encouraged to attend the special meeting to discuss two key topics: public safety solutions and the mask ordinance.

Those wishing to speak must sign up in person at the Newburg Community Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30. Signups will be open for one hour and will close promptly at 5:30 p.m. Each speaker will have up to three minutes to address the committee.

For those unable to attend in person, written comments can be submitted through this online form: https://louisvilleky.wufoo.com/forms/m1b608ay0ncyhc4/. The form will close on Friday, November 1, at 5:00 p.m.

Join for the Kentucky Veterans Parade and Celebration, an annual event dedicated to honoring and thanking our veterans. The festivities kick off with a traveling parade, Operation Rendezvous, which will bring convoys from north, south, east and west to converge in downtown Louisville. From there, the traditional parade steps off at noon, proceeding east on Jefferson Street from 7th to 4th Street. After the parade, enjoy the static display along 6th Street, where you can meet veterans and view historic military vehicles. This year’s parade will be led by Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Don Ballard, representing the Armed Forces Medic Corps.

To participate in the parade, visit KYVetParade.com. They look forward to welcoming you on Saturday, November 9th to downtown Louisville for the Kentucky Veterans Parade and Celebration!

Approved

O-214-24: an ordinance amending Louisville Metro Code of Ordinances (LMCO) Chapter 39 regulating publicly owned and accessible Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations.
O-222-24: an ordinance amending the Louisville Metro Land Development Code (LDC) Sections 5.1.10, 5.4.1, and 7.3.30 regarding residential additions and private yard area.
Zoning of properties located at 1215-1221 Old Fern Valley Road, 12312 Taylorsville Road, 13300 Old Henry Road, 14700 Taylorsville Road and 3160 E. English Station Road.

An important update is coming to the rental registration process!

The Rental Registry (Chapter 119), which is enforced by the Department of Codes & Regulations, aims to maintain transparency and accountability among rental property owners across the city. Starting November 4th, those who need to register their long-term rental properties will transition from using the Metro Business Portal to a new, user-friendly platform called Slate.

The Slate application, developed by Tolemi, has been implemented in several other cities, such as Monterey, CA and Lakewood, WA, for their Rental Registry initiatives. The effectiveness of the program in these locations is underscored by terms like "streamlined," "compliance," and "customer-friendly." We are confident this change will benefit rental property owners and increase the health and wellbeing of their tenants.

A comprehensive step-by-step guide for registering your property using Slate, along with extra detailed information, will be provided by the Department of Codes & Regulations on the day the program is launched. Updates to their website will also be made available at that time. Arnoldtown Road Repairs

Public Works intends to close Arnoldtown Road near 7929 to complete a slope remediation project tentatively starting November 4, 2024. The start date is pending LG&E having their overhead utilities relocated in advanced and they have been informed that this should be completed next week. The closure is currently anticipated to be in place through March 2025. Above is their planned detour route and variable message boards will be installed in advance of the project to provide roadway users notice of the pending closure.

The First Neighborhood Place is Hosting: Black MENtal Health

They are seeking 50 Black and Brown men to join together for a discussion about accountability to our partners, kids, and each other as men.

Date: Monday, November 11, 2024

Time: 5:30PM - 7:30PM

Venue: South Central Regional Library - (7300 Jefferson Boulevard)

Fall Leaf Drop-Off Coming Soon!

Mowing over leaves to mulch them back into your lawn is a great option for reducing waste. Mulching not only returns vital nutrients to the soil, but experts say that it can help your grass grow even better the following year!

The Metro Public Works free leaf drop-off sites will be open Tuesday-Saturdays, November 5 through December 7. Drop-off will not be available on November 28 and 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Only leaves will be accepted. Leaves can be loose, in paper/compostable bags, or reusable containers. Containers used to bring leaves to the drop-off sites must be taken back by residents.
