District 10 news

Rest in peace, Ed Hulsman, 1934-2024

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Ed Hulsman on Sunday. A Schnitzelburg Citizen of the Year, Ed was described by friends at the All Wool and a Yard Wide Democratic Club as the heart and soul of the club for many years.

Edward Joseph Hulsman, age 90, was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving upon the USS Monterey. He was a skilled electrician and proud member of the IEBW local 369. Edward was the owner of Neon Art Signs. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church for 57 years.

His civic accomplishments include being inducted into the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels, appointed as a Constable, and recently being named Citizen of the Year in his neighborhood community of Schnitzelburg. Edward also served as President of both the All Wool and a Yard Wide Democratic Club and Mose Green Democratic Club.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 64 years, Mary F. Hulsman; son, Edward J. Hulsman, Jr.; daughter, Karen Sidebottom (Danny); daughter, Debbie Lawson (Robert); son, Steven Hulsman (Laura); and sister, Mary A. Allgeier. Also sharing in his legacy are nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Frank H. and Mary (Koenig) Hulsman; and siblings, Frank Hulsman, Theresa Anderson, and Helen Jones.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 5, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 5915 Outer Loop. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery. The family will gather with friends for visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 4 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road.

The Louisville Zoo proudly announces the birth of a Sumatran tiger cub, marking the first tiger birth in more than 20 years for the Zoo. Born on July 23, the cub is the offspring of 16-year-old male Kami Sambal and 14-year-old female Jingga. Both mother and cub are thriving under the dedicated care of the Zoo’s expert staff. Jingga is demonstrating all the appropriate behaviors of an experienced mother, grooming, nursing and carrying her neonate cub.
