Peace. A few dozen citizens spoke at today's special hearing regarding the FOP/LMPD contract(s). There was overwhelming opposition. You can watch the hearing here.
The Homeless Task Force had a meeting last Thursday. To volunteer with any of the task force's participating organizations email karen.boykins-mcghee@louisvilleky.gov. You can watch the meeting here. Regarding the upcoming encampment clearings — Wayside Christian Mission will help make sure people have shelter. Our office has committed Neighborhood Development Funds for displaced residents but will likely not need to disperse funds until the winter. We're working closely with the Office of Resilience and Community Services on this.
Over the weekend, our buffer zone ordinance was supposed to be enforced, but was not. Since we passed this in May, there has plenty of time for LMPD to create a plan for enforcement but based on this email from Chief Erika Shields, they are still 'working on the logistics.'
LMPD is currently working on the logistics of tracking the written warnings as well as a training and enforcement plan. We have been in communication with the County Attorney’s office regarding the enforcement of the ordinance as well as with the EMW staff. Given the department’s current staffing issues and other priorities, it is neither feasible nor prudent to post officers outside EMW for the purpose of witnessing an infraction. We will continue to be responsive when contacted via 911. Thank you, Chief Shields
We'll monitor the process to share upon its availability.
THANK YOU, Councilman Jecorey Arthur
