Carmel Leaders present projected impact of new state funding law
Carmel leaders hosted a virtual presentation last night to address the projected financial impact of a new state law, Indiana's Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 1, which will significantly change local government funding starting in 2026.
Mayor Sue Finkam, Carmel Clay Schools Superintendent Dr. Thomas Oestreich and Carmel Clay Public Library Director Bob Swanay detailed how the new legislation will affect their respective budgets. Portions of their remarks were in response to questions submitted by residents in advance of the session.

Session tickets now available for World Aquatics Swimming World Cup
Session tickets are now on sale for the first leg of the 2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup at the Carmel High School Natatorium Complex.
Carmel Clay Schools, Carmel Swim Club and Hamilton County Sports Authority collaborated to bring this prestigious international event, scheduled for Oct. 10-12, to the state-of-the-art facility, showcasing Carmel's commitment to aquatic excellence and bolstering the city's economic vitality.

1st on Main nominated for Indy Chamber Monumental Award
Carmel's 1st on Main development has been nominated for the prestigious Monumental Award in Real Estate Development, to be presented by the Indy Chamber on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Monumental Awards celebrate the region’s most noteworthy contributions to the built environment, recognizing excellence in architecture, construction, engineering, innovative reuse, interior design, landscape architecture, neighborhood revitalization, public art and real estate development.

TOWNE ROAD UPDATES (weather- and progress-permitting):
- 136th Street is closed through September
- 141st Street will close after 136th Street opens
- Towne Road Bridge over I-465 is an INDOT project that has an expected completion of early 2026
CLAY CENTER BRIDGE The bridge south of Main Street and north of the Claridge Farm neighborhood entrance is closed through November.
96TH/REAL STREET
96th/Real Street is closed to through traffic between College Avenue and Westfield Boulevard for two weeks. The detour route utilizes College Avenue, 91st Street and Westfield Boulevard. Access to properties along 96th Street will be maintained from the west via College Avenue.

1st Avenue NW
1st Avenue NW will be closed to through traffic between Main Street and 1st Street NW for up to four hours beginning at 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 4. Traffic will be detoured using Main Street, Range Line Road and 1st Street NW. Access to the Sophia Square parking garage will be maintained from the north via 1st Street NW.

NEWS FROM HAMILTON COUNTY HIGHWAY The Hamilton County Highway Department is responsible for all roads, bridges and small structures (less than 20-foot span) within Hamilton County which are not state highways and which are not within the corporate limits of a city or town.
126TH STREET BRIDGE REHABILITATION 126th Street between Brookshire Parkway and Royce Court is closed for bridge rehabilitation with an expected completion date of mid-late October.
Local traffic will continue to have access to their homes, while thru traffic is asked to utilize the posted detour of Keystone Parkway – 131st Street – Gray Road.

FROM THE INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (INDOT) The Level Up 31 project is located on the northside of Indianapolis in Marion and Hamilton counties. The project includes an interchange modification to the I-465 and U.S. 31 interchange to add capacity and increase efficiency and safety by eliminating traffic weaving and merging.

Carmel and Noblesville Partner for 31st Annual White River Clean-Up
The City of Carmel Stormwater Department is partnering with the City of Noblesville to host the 31st Annual White River Clean-Up on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to noon. This annual event brings volunteers together to help make an immediate, positive impact on the White River by removing trash from the water and its banks.

Calling all creatives!
Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts invites Indiana-based artists, organizations to submit proposals for New Works
New Works is an initiative to promote and sustain local artists and arts communities by supporting the creation of new works in various disciplines.
A panel of judges will select one winner in the visual arts and three winners in the performing arts, which can include music, dance, theater and other fields. The four winning proposals will receive $2,500 each to create and premiere the works during a livestreamed public event May 30 in Allied Solutions Center’s Tarkington theater. The winning visual arts piece, which can be two- or three-dimensional, will be displayed for one year in the main lobby of the Payne & Mencias Palladium concert hall.
The submission deadline is Friday, Sept. 12 at 11:59 p.m. Further details and application instructions are available at this link.
