EASTERN PLACER BULLETIN

May Updates: Tahoe Board Meetings, Palisades Review & Community Events

As we move further into May, I want to highlight a few important updates and opportunities for our Eastern Placer community to stay engaged on issues shaping North Lake Tahoe, from upcoming Board meetings to major projects and community celebrations.

Next week, the Placer County Board of Supervisors will hold Tahoe-based meetings on Monday, May 11 at 2 p.m. and Tuesday, May 12 at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. These meetings bring the full Board into the Basin and allow for focused discussion on issues that directly impact our mountain communities. Agenda items relevant to Eastern Placer County include:

Monday, May 11 (3:00 p.m.)
Workforce Housing Preservation Program annual update and proposed
   amendments to program guidelines
Annual updates on Eastern Placer housing programs, including Lease to
   Locals and Launchpad
Affordable Housing Priority Applicant Policy

Tuesday, May 12 (9:00 a.m.)
Resolution honoring the lives lost in the Castle Peak Avalanche and
recognizing Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue
Consideration of the proposed amendments to the Village at Palisades
   Tahoe Specific Plan
National Weather Service Emergency Notification Project

                                    >>View full agenda here<<

I encourage residents to attend in person, submit comments online, or tune in live on the county’s YouTube channel. These Tahoe meetings provide a valuable opportunity to engage with the entire Board of Supervisors on issues that matter to Eastern Placer.

One of the key items before the Board will be the proposed amended Village at Palisades Tahoe Specific Plan. Following extensive community input and a settlement agreement reached last year, the project has been revised to reduce its overall scale, including fewer lodging units, reduced commercial space, and lower building heights. Last month, the Planning Commission reviewed the updated proposal, heard public feedback, and ultimately recommended approval with additional modifications aimed at addressing community concerns, particularly around traffic safety and pedestrian access. The project now moves to the Board of Supervisors for final consideration, and I encourage those interested to stay engaged as this process continues. Find more information here

I also hope you’ll join us in celebrating the completion of a major milestone for Tahoe City. After more than a year of construction, Fanny Bridge officially reopened earlier this year, restoring a critical connection for the West Shore while delivering important safety, accessibility, and environmental improvements. On May 17, the community is invited to a ribbon cutting and block party at Fanny Bridge from 12–4:30 p.m. This free, family-friendly event will include live music, local organizations, food and drinks, and activities for all ages. It’s a great opportunity to come together and celebrate a project that reflects strong collaboration and long-term investment in our region. Find more information here

As always, thank you for staying involved and engaged. Your input continues to play an important role in shaping the future of North Lake Tahoe.

In service,
Cindy Gustafson
Placer County Supervisor, District 5

ADVOCATING FOR THE SIERRA AT THE CAPITOL

Sierra Day

Last week, I was proud to join leaders and partners from across the Sierra Nevada for Sierra Day at the Capitol in Sacramento. More than 40 advocates from throughout the region met with over 25 legislators and staff to highlight the importance of continued investment in Sierra communities, forest health, wildfire resilience, conservation, and economic sustainability. These conversations are critical for communities like ours in North Lake Tahoe and across Placer County, where issues like housing, transportation, environmental stewardship, and forest management are deeply connected. Thank you to the Sierra Nevada Alliance and Sierra Business Council for organizing this important day and for their continued leadership in advocating for the Sierra region.

REPLAY: LIBERTY UTILITIES VIRTUAL INFORMATION SESSION

Town Hall

Thank you to everyone who joined our recent virtual information session with Liberty Utilities and Liberty Tahoe President Eric Schwarzrock. The discussion focused on Liberty’s upcoming transition away from NV Energy and the company’s shift toward a more independent energy supply beginning in 2027, along with what those changes could mean for customers in the Tahoe region. For those who were unable to attend, a recording of the meeting is available to watch online. Thank you again to Liberty Utilities for taking the time to provide updates and answer community questions. WATCH NOW
