New Habitat and Access Crew Leader in Laramie

LARAMIE – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Laramie Regional office is pleased Micah Morristo welcome Micah Morris as the new Habitat and Access crew leader.

The Habitat and Access Crew Leader is responsible for managing and maintaining Game and Fish Commission-owned Public Access Areas and Wildlife Habitat Management Areas (WHMA). Popular areas under Morris’ management include the Laramie Peak WHMA, the Wick/Buemee WHMA, the Tom Thorne/ Beth Williams WHMA, and Public Access Areas in the Laramie area.

Morris is a Wyoming native and was born in Glenrock and attended Glenrock High School.  In his youth he worked on a ranch south of Glenrock in trade for access for fishing and hunting. This work helped build a strong aspiration to actively participate in the maintenance and restoration of forest and range environments and wildlife habitats.

Morris graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Range Ecology and Watershed Management. After college he worked with the USDA-Forest Service in Laramie as Lead Forest Technician for the Timber Department in the Medicine Bow National Forest. He implemented timber sale preparation and improvement efforts for logging operations including layout, maintenance and mapping. He also worked closely with other departments such as range, recreation and fire.

His goal for the Habitat and Access Crew Leader position is to help provide quality year-round habitat for all wildlife species and to provide quality wildlife experiences to all public users. “I feel strongly about managing the resources made available to the public, so I have a firm commitment to the necessity of forest and range renewal and sustainability,” he said. So far the job is going well. “I enjoy the people I work with and especially the ability to be outdoors in the environments that I love the most,” he said.

Morris enjoys being outdoors with his family and pursuing his interests in fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, backpacking and riding motorcycles. He lives in Laramie with his wife, Heather, sons Aidan and Cian, and daughter Maeve.
