Rainbow trout brood culls stocked in Sloans Lake
CHEYENNE – Anglers looking for something to do over the Thanksgiving holiday might want to try their luck at Sloans Lake, where the Wyoming Game and Fish Department stocked approximately 250 brood cull rainbow trout earlier this month.
The rainbow trout were culled from the breeding stock at Boulder Fish Rearing Station near Pinedale. They average 18 to 24 inches and weigh around three pounds each. As breeding stock, the fish produce between 2.5 and 3 million eggs per year. The eggs are shipped to fish hatcheries around the state where they are raised and eventually stocked into public waters.
When brood stock fish reach three to five years old they are beyond their peak spawning production and are released into lakes and rivers in the state for anglers to enjoy.
“They are excellent fish and will provide a great opportunity for area anglers,” said Robin Kepple, information specialist for the Game and Fish Department.
