Keep an eye out for a new Delta Dental card in your mail box.

Aging Out of Kid Care CHIP at Age 19

Finding health coverage for your young adult after Kid Care CHIP.

Aging out 2

Kid Care CHIP covers teens up to the month of their 19th birthday. This means, if your child's birthday is July 7, he or she is covered until July 31. After this time, there is limited coverage available from the State of Wyoming for adults.

What's next?

  • Call the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) at 855-294-2127 to apply for coverage. If no coverage group is available for your child, you will receive a letter stating your child is no longer eligible for Kid Care CHIP. Keep this letter. You may need it when applying for other health insurance.
  • Parents, if you have coverage through work, you may be able to cover your child up to age 26. Speak to your Human Resources representative. You may need to show the letter from WDH that your child is not eligible for Kid Care CHIP if you make this change to your insurance in a period other than open enrollment.
  • Apply for the federal marketplace. Call WY 2-1-1 or visit healthcare.gov to apply for your child. Your child may enroll at a time outside of open enrollment but will need to provide the letter from WDH as proof that he or she is not eligible for a program through the State.
  • If your child is a student at a college or university, the school may offer student health insurance.
  • Your child's employer may also provide health insurance that was previously overlooked. Have your child ask his or her Human Resources representative for more details.
  • Get your 19-year-old involved in the process.  Finding and applying for health insurance is a lesson in the importance of  health care and financial responsibility.

BCBSWY Commits to Ending Hunger in Wyoming

Wyoming Hunger Initiative

Making sure kids are fed three times a day is a reality for parents. Worrying about where to find that next meal shouldn’t be – but it is for 1 in 6 Wyoming kids.

With new changes and unexpected challenges facing families today, it’s important to know where to find the community programs that are available to help. Nourished kids, healthy families, and thriving communities are the goals of the Wyoming Hunger Initiative and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming.

You can find the Wyoming Hunger Initiative at nohungerwyo.com - this statewide resource has up to date information for finding local food programs – including those offering perishable food items such as meat, dairy, fruits, and vegetables.

“Food security is near and dear to our hearts because it’s hard to stay healthy if you’re hungry. Now, with so many of our Wyoming neighbors struggling to make ends meet, partnering with the Wyoming Hunger Initiative is one more way we can help,” said Diane Gore, president and CEO of BCBSWY.

Hunger should not be something that Wyoming families worry about. That’s why BCBSWY supports the work of the Wyoming Hunger Initiative to end childhood hunger in Wyoming. Our small state thrives when all of us come together to help our neighbors and community. We are #WyomingTogether.
