Governor Appoints New District Court Judge for the First Judicial District

CHEYENNE, Wyo – Governor Matt Mead has appointed Peter H. Froelicher to be District Court Judge for the First Judicial District.  Froelicher fills the new fourth judgeship in the District, created and funded by amendments to Wyo. Stat. 5-3-102.

Froelicher graduated from the University of Wyoming, College of Law in 1992. He distinguished himself academically and through service on Law Review. Since graduating, Froelicher has served as a law clerk at the Wyoming Supreme Court, as an Assistant Public Defender at the Wyoming Public Defenders Office, as Laramie County Attorney, and as a hearing examiner with the State of Wyoming, Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH). He was appointed and confirmed as Director of OAH in 2017.

“Over the past 26 years, Peter Froelicher has practiced criminal, civil and administrative law. He brings broad experience to the bench.  He advised Laramie County for eight years as the County Attorney. In 12 years in a quasi-judicial position at OAH, he has managed a large docket, handled hundreds of contested proceedings, and written numerous well-researched, well-reasoned orders.” Governor Mead said. “He comes highly recommended by judges and peers and is uniformly complimented for his unfailing professionalism and excellent work habits. He will be a great addition as the new fourth judge in the First Judicial District.”

Reacting to his appointment, Froelicher said, “It is a tremendous honor to be selected by Governor Mead to serve as a district court judge. I am committed to working diligently for the people of Laramie County and the State of Wyoming. I look forward to working with Judges Campbell, Sharpe and Rogers and helping with the heavy workload of the District.”
