The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality – Water Quality Division (WDEQ-WQD) is accepting public comments on the Draft 2026 Review, Water Quality Standards for Salinity, Colorado River System. In compliance with the federal Clean Water Act and the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Act, the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum (Forum), comprised of the seven basin states (Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming), is responsible for reviewing and adopting these water quality standards every three years. Accordingly, each of the seven basin states adopts the updated Water Quality Standards for Salinity, Colorado River System as part of their state surface water quality standards. The Forum recently approved these draft water quality standards, which is available in the “News and Announcements” section of the Forum’s website: http://coloradoriversalinity.org/.
The WDEQ-WQD has consistently adopted the Water Quality Standards for Salinity, Colorado River System into its Wyoming Water Quality Rules Chapter 1, Wyoming Surface Water Quality Standards and anticipates proposing the final 2026 version of the salinity standards for adoption as part of a future update to Chapter 1. The Forum and each of the Colorado River Basin states are providing an opportunity for public comments on the Draft 2026 Review.
