WY-TOPP CONTENT AND FAIRNESS REVIEW

Application due by June 10, 2022

  • The Wyoming Department of Education seeks Wyoming educators to participate in the WY-TOPP Content Alignment Review Committee or the WY-TOPP Bias & Fairness Item Review Committee for Science. 
  • These committees will be held in-person on August 11, 2022 in Cheyenne. 
  • Committee members will be eligible for an honorarium paid after all committee work is complete.
  • All applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on June 10.

MATH AND SCIENCE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • The State Board of Education approved Math Performance Standards and Science Performance Standards as part of the Chapter 10 Wyoming Content and Performance Standards rules. [NOTE: These are draft documents.]
  • The new rules are being reviewed by the Legislature, the Attorney General, and the Governor, who has the final authority on enactment.
  • The WDE will communicate the final result and any updated documents in the August Newsletter.

UW GRADUATE LEVEL SUMMER MATH COURSE OFFERING

EMAT 5150 - Elementary and Middle School Mathematics from an Advanced Perspective 

  • Students will examine fundamental mathematical ideas typically taught in elementary and middle school levels from an advanced perspective.
  • They will learn about effective mathematical tasks for fostering K-8 students' creativity in mathematics.
  • Members of the class will examine number sense, fractions, measurement, geometry, and data analysis in-depth through cognitively demanding and creativity-directed tasks.
  • Problem-solving and inquiry-based instructional strategies are emphasized throughout the course.

    • The CTE professional development for May is focused on Transportation, Distribution & Logistics.

    • The FIRST week is industry representatives, the SECOND is training organizations, the THIRD is Workforce services, and the FOURTH week is CTE teachers.

Zero Barriers in STEM Education: Accessibility & Inclusion Program

SUMMER INSTITUTE ON VOTING

June 27-30 or July 11-14, Virtual and Free

  • This professional development institute prepares teacher leaders to teach about the upcoming election and to support their colleagues' efforts to foster informed and equitable voting among students and the community.
  • Participate in an interactive 4-day institute for 3 hours each day.
  • Complete asynchronous, independent work for one hour each day.
  • Sponsored by the Civic Engagement Research Group (CERG) at the University of California Riverside and CIRCLE, part of Tufts University’s Tisch College for Civic Life.
