Each month, this newsletter will highlight all the relevant upcoming Professional Development offerings for Wyoming educators. While the department will highlight these offerings for the upcoming month, educators can find all relevant PD opportunities on the PD calendar page or the Professional Development page on the WDE website.

Upcoming PD Opportunities for August:

  • Noon and again at 2 p.m. on August 3: Tech Ed Tuesday; English Language Learners. The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) will host Technical Education (Tech Ed) Tuesdays for all Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers, curriculum coordinators, and Perkins coordinators.
     
  • Noon and again at 2 p.m. on August 10: Tech Ed Tuesday; Disabilities. The WDE will host Tech Ed Tuesdays for all CTE teachers, curriculum coordinators, and Perkins coordinators.

  • 8 a.m. on August 11 to 12:30 p.m. on August 12; WAVES. This professional development and training is designed for special education paraprofessionals; however, other paraprofessionals, supervising teachers, and administrators are encouraged to attend. A stipend is available for special education paraprofessionals. The following topics will be covered: professionalism. ethics, confidentiality, behavior management strategies, high leverage practices, and effective teacher-para collaboration strategies. 

  • August 11-14: The Native American Education Conference provides workshops and presentations to enhance learning opportunities and future success for American Indian children. The event begins at 4 p.m. on August 11 and concludes at 3:30 p.m. on August 14.

  • 3:30-5:30 p.m. on August 12, Virtually: MTSS - Building an Effective Tier 1 System. An effective Tier 1 system is designed to meet the needs of all learners and provide a foundation for successful supplemental interventions within MTSS. In this training, participants will learn the core features of Tier 1 systems, including evidence-based practices and high-leverage practices consistently delivered within and across grade levels. 

  • Noon and again at 2 p.m. on August 17: Tech Ed Tuesday; State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow. The WDE will host Tech Ed Tuesdays for all CTE teachers, curriculum coordinators, and Perkins coordinators. 

  • 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on August 18 at the Laramie County Library: Wyoming MTSS Coaching Institute (Day One). Do you want to be an MTSS Coach? You’re invited to attend the free Wyoming MTSS Coaching Institute. Hosted by the Wyoming MTSS Center, the institute will provide ongoing support and guidance for educators coaching their schools with Wyoming’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). 

  • 9 a.m.-noon on August 18: Secondary Perkins Coordinator Training. The Perkins Project Coordinator is responsible for writing and managing the grant to meet target measures and deliverables in accordance with the WDE, federal regulations, policies and procedures. This is an opportunity to receive assistance and gain a greater understanding of navigating the Application, Comprehensive Local Needs, Advisory Councils, GMS System, Cash Requests, SCED codes, allowable and unallowable expenses, and explain what a high quality CTE program looks like for Perkins. This training is recommended for anyone who works on the comprehensive local needs assessment, the application, cash requests, or the programs of study as they relate to Perkins V.

  • 1-4 p.m. on August 18: Post-Secondary Perkins Coordinator Training. The Perkins Project Coordinator is responsible for writing and managing the grant to meet target measures and deliverables in accordance with the WDE, federal regulations, policies and procedures. This is an opportunity to receive assistance and gain a greater understanding of navigating the Application, Comprehensive Local Needs, Advisory Councils, GMS System, Cash Requests, SCED codes, allowable and unallowable expenses, and explain what a high quality CTE program looks like for Perkins. This training is recommended for anyone who works on the comprehensive local needs assessment, the application, cash requests, or the programs of study as they relate to Perkins V.

  • 11 a.m.-Noon on August 19; IDEA Compliance for Out of District Placement (for Districts). This session will review the newly released WDE Out-of-District and Parental Placement guidance documents, covering several types of student placements and focusing on the roles and responsibilities of both district- and institutional school special educators and administrators under the IDEA and Wyoming Chapter 7. Topics for this session will include: IEP Team Placements, Court-Ordered Placements, Medically Necessary Parental Placements, Parental Placements in Private Schools and Homeschools, and Parental Placements Funded by Private Insurance. Time will be allotted at the end of the presentation for questions from school district participants.

  • Noon and again at 2 p.m. on August 24: Tech Ed Tuesday; Upper Campus. The WDE will host Tech Ed Tuesdays for all CTE teachers, curriculum coordinators, and Perkins coordinators.

  • 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on August 25: DRIVE: Developing Rewarding Integrated Vocational Experiences – A Paraprofessional Training. The Wyoming Department of Education will host a CTE Paraprofessional training session virtually via Zoom. DRIVE training will provide the tools needed by paraprofessionals and job coaches to develop work readiness skills, job development with local employers, and job coaching with students, as they begin to work in new positions in your community. 

  • 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on August 28: Secondary CTE New Teacher Orientation. WDE recognizes the importance of informed and well-trained CTE educators. WDE aims to increase the retention rates of CTE teachers and strengthen programs of study in your district. This orientation is a great way to learn about: professional organizations, funding opportunities, programs of study and concentrators.
