EDUCATOR INPUT SOUGHT ON FOREIGN LANGUAGE STANDARDS

  • The 2013 Wyoming Foreign Language Content and Performance Standards are up for review.
  • The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) is collecting educator input for the review committee’s consideration.
  • For educator input, review the 2013 Foreign Language Standards and then provide comment by:
    • Completing the Educator Input Survey by May 28, 2021.
    • Attending a virtual Community Input Meeting:

  • The WDE seeks Wyoming educators interested in reviewing the Wyoming Content & Performance Standards for Foreign Language.
  • Those interested in serving on the Foreign Language Standards Review Committee should complete the Call for Participants Survey by May 28, 2021.
  • Members will be chosen based on diversity in experience, role, region, and school size.

SCIENCE TEACHERS NEEDED FOR ASSESSMENT REVIEW

SCIENCE MULTI-STATE ITEM REVIEW & RUBRIC VALIDATION COMMITTEES

  • Cambium Assessment Inc. (CAI) will conduct a series of virtual reviews by educators from across multiple states of field-tested items and item clusters for science. Committee members will perform Rubric Validation, Item Review, and Fairness Review.
  • Review dates include the weeks of: June 7-11, June 21-25, July 19-23, July 26-30, and August 16-20.

WY-TOPP SCIENCE CONTENT AND FAIRNESS COMMITTEES

Applications due June 7, 2021

    • The WDE seeks educators to participate in either the Science Assessment Item Review or the Science Fairness Review Committee meetings being held virtually June 29-July 2, 2021.
    • To participate in these committee reviews, all participants must be available to attend a morning training 8:30-9:30 a.m. MDT on June 29, 2021.
  • All committee members selected will be eligible for an honorarium that will be paid out after committee meetings have taken place.

EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

  • Twelve teacher leaders are being sought to serve as Educator Ambassadors for a new professional learning opportunity this fall through a partnership between the Wyoming Department of Education and American Institutes for Research (AIR).
  • Selected teacher leaders will be equipped with knowledge and strategies related to virtual learning.
  • Educator Ambassadors will receive a $1,000 honorarium for serving as leaders in the Canvas online community and Learning Collaborations while also receiving support and professional development from AIR.

K-3 LITERACY WORKSHOP

May 11-12, 2021 with Solution Tree’s Kathryn Sheridan

  • Free two-day training on K-3 ELA practices and strategies.
  • Focus: Leveraging collaboration to support literacy instruction.
  • Register by May 5.
  • PTSB credit available.

NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH PACESETTER AWARD

Deadline to submit winners: May 15, 2021

  • Submissions are being accepted for the Pacesetter Award.
  • The award honors the top two Native American students from each school district in Wyoming.
  • A ceremony will take place August 14 during the online Native American Education Conference.
  • To submit selections, districts should complete this form.

HEART MOUNTAIN INTERNEE PRESENTATION

1:30 p.m. MDT on May 5, 2021

  • Sam Mihara, who was imprisoned at the Heart Mountain Relocation Center as a 9-year-old boy, will share his recollections.
  • Teachers will need to register their classes by 5 p.m. on May 4, 2021.
  • The session will also be live streamed on YouTube and the recording will be available afterward.
  • Students in grades 7-12 are encouraged to watch Mihara’s 60-minute presentation and submit
    questions through the chat box.

WALLOP CIVIC EDUCATION WORKSHOP

June 9 & 10, 2021

Deadline to apply: May 14, 2021

  • Wyoming social studies teachers are invited to participate in a virtual workshop for two mornings.
  • Hosts: The Wallop Civic Engagement Program Team and UW Trustees Education Initiative.
  • $500 stipend.
  • Goals:
    • Build a professional community among Wyoming K-12 educators and UW faculty/content experts.
    • Enhance teaching skills of participants with online learning, hybrid models, face-to-face use of synchronous and asynchronous Wallop materials, among others.
    • Create new content that K-12 educators and UW faculty can use to engage students in social studies content.

JUDICIAL BRANCH SUMMER INSTITUTE

July 26-30, 2021 in Alexandria, Virginia

  • The Bill of Rights Institute is holding a Summer Institute on Justice and the Judicial Branch.
  • Teachers from Wyoming are specifically being sought.
  • The institute is free, and a $500 travel stipend is available for those who are accepted.

PRIMARY HISTORICAL SOURCES WORKSHOPS

  • The Presidential Primary Sources Project is partnering with the Presidential Libraries to offer two free, virtual week-long teacher professional development workshops this summer.
  • The workshops will offer expertise for teachers on how to incorporate primary sources and navigate historical themes in their curriculum.
    • Intersections of Injustice Institute, June 21-25, 2021.
    • Presidents and the Constitution, July 12-16, 2021.

TEACHING THE HUMANITIES THROUGH ART

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTATIONAL THINKING FOR EVERY EDUCATOR

Enrollment period open through July 12, 2021

  • Developed with support from Google, Introduction to Computational Thinking (CT) for Every Educator unpacks how CT can be integrated throughout subject areas and grade levels.
  • Through this course, you’ll increase your awareness of CT, experiment with CT-integrated activities for the subject areas you teach, and create a plan to incorporate CT into your curricula.
  • 15-hour, self-paced course with ongoing instructor support.
  • Course dates: July 12-September 5.

WySLICE: INTEGRATING COMPUTER SCIENCE

Cohort No. 2: June 2021-May 2022

  • Forty K-8 educators and four to eight state/county librarians will learn how to integrate computer science into existing curriculum:
    • Phase 1 - Summer professional development.
    • Phase 2 - Academic year support to implement & integrate computer science lessons.
  • Opportunity to earn a PTSB/UW credit and a future TBD Computer Science Micro-credential.
  • Stipend of $1,050.
