CALL FOR ELA STANDARDS REVIEW COMMITTEE

  • The Wyoming Department of Education seeks Wyoming educators interested in reviewing the Wyoming ELA Standards.
  • Those interested in serving on the ELA Standards Review Committee should complete the Call for Participants Survey by March 26, 2021.
  • Completing the survey expresses interest in participating but does not commit anyone to serve on the review committee.
  • Standards review committee members will be chosen based on diversity in experience, roles, and region or school size. 

EDUCATOR INPUT SOUGHT ON ELA STANDARDS

  • The Wyoming ELA Standards are due for review.
  • The WDE is collecting educator input, for the review committee’s consideration, through March 26, 2021.
  • Input may also be provided during two Community Input Meetings.

EDUCATOR INPUT SOUGHT ON SCIENCE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • The WDE is collecting educator input on the Performance Standards identified in the 2021 Wyoming Science Content and Performance Standards through March 17, 2021.
  • The Performance Standards are ones on which students will be assessed through the district assessment system.
  • Input may also be provided during two Public Input Meetings. 

WRITING WEDNESDAYS TEACHER INTERVIEWS

  • To highlight the great writing work occurring in Wyoming's classrooms, the University of Wyoming is seeking to interview teachers via Zoom and record these interviews to share throughout the summer in the Writing Wednesdays project.
  • Contact Dr. Amy Spiker at aspiker@uwyo.edu to nominate oneself or others, or for additional information.

WYOMING BOOK AWARDS

Voting and nominations due March 15, 2021

  • The Wyoming Library Association and the Wyoming State Literacy Association jointly sponsor three awards to provide an opportunity for students to read and select favorite books and to honor the authors of those books.   
  • Have your students vote at:
  • Nominate your favorite book at Wyoming Book Awards.

LITERACY ASSOCIATION CHALLENGE GRANTS

Entry deadline: March 30, 2021

  • The Wyoming State Literacy Association's Challenge Grant Program provides awards to teaching professionals to reach for their highest degree of competency in reading instruction.
  • Challenge Grants will support efforts to develop and use new and innovative reading curriculum programs directly with students.
  • Eligible applicants must be members of the Wyoming State Literacy Association.

IMPORTANCE OF ART EDUCATION WORKSHOPS


WyGEO TRAINING VIDEOS

Support to teach with GIS

  • WyGEO has created the first two, in its series of three, training videos to replace planned in-person classes.
  • Fill out the information in this form to access the first video. You will receive a gift card worth $25 after completing the training video and associated feedback survey.
  • The first 10 gift card recipients per video will be eligible for a drawing of a $200 gift card.
  • Access to the second video can be requested after completing the first video.

CLIMATE CHANGE EDUCATORS SUMMER INSTITUTE

July 28-30, 2021, Virtual

  • Join a network of teachers from across the country for a three-day virtual conference to learn new tools, skills, and resources to teach climate change in any subject area.
  • Climate Generation’s 16th annual Summer Institute for Climate Change Education will be hosted in partnership with The Wild Center’s Youth Climate Program and NOAA’s Climate Office.
  • Registration is $250. Scholarships are available.

NASA 3-D THURSDAY WEBINARS

 Supporting rural girls in K-12 STEM

  • Rural girls experience unique barriers with their intersecting identities and experiences and may benefit from mentors and strategies that aim to support their navigation through STEM fields. 
  • NASA is offering 3-D Thursdays on the first Thursday of each month, suitable for all grades K-12 and any educator who wishes to support rural girls in their STEM journeys.
  • Register for the first webinar March 4 at 6 p.m. MT.

HEALTH EDUCATION VIRTUAL STRATEGIES

12:30 p.m. on February 25, 2021

  • webinar - Delivering K-12 Health Education Using a Skills-Based Approach for the 21st
    Century - will be offered by the Society of State Leaders of Health and Physical Education.
  • Learning objectives:
    • Share virtual strategies for teaching a skills-based approach in Health Education.
    • Provide support and technical assistance to state and district leaders who want to share these strategies.
    • Explore a skills-based curriculum.

WHITE HOUSE STUDENT ART COMPETITION

Submission deadline: May 7, 2021

  • The White House Historical Association is hosting a National Student Art Competition to celebrate its 60th Anniversary and the legacy of its founder, First Lady Jaqueline Kennedy.
  • The theme is The White House: An American Story.
  • Students are invited to submit artwork depicting and reflecting the White House, its collection, and its diverse history. 
  • Winners will be selected in K-3, 4-8, and 9-12.

NATIONAL ARCHIVES CIVICS WORKSHOPS

March 9, 25 or 30

  • The Center for Legislative Archives at the National Archives and the National Archives Foundation will present a free online workshop for both middle school and high school teachers.
  • The one-hour workshop will use primary source documents to show how educators can teach the main ideas in the U.S. Constitution.
