The Wyoming Department of Education seeks Wyoming residents interested in serving on standards review committees: Health/Physical Education, Fine & Performing Arts, and Math Extended.
The Math Extended Standards committee will meet June 14-16, 2019 to align newly adopted math standards with extended standards for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.
Both committees for Fine & Performing Arts and Health/PE will meet August 15-17, 2019.
Public comment meetings are scheduled April 23-May 16 across the state. Online public comment surveys are open until May 19, 2019.

Microsoft Corp. is enabling the Wyoming Department of Education to offer computer science implementation and planning training to school districts. Wyoming will receive over $95,000 in grant funding from Microsoft’s TechSpark initiative.
Districts must apply to attend, and those serving substantially rural and under-served students will be given priority. Participants will include district leaders and school leaders, media/tech facilitators and educators teaching computer science.
Training will occur in five locations and will be open to six districts in each location. Each training consists of several sessions over a year.
- Casper: May 14 & 15, 2019; Oct. 15, 2019; and May 20, 2020.
- Rock Springs: June 4 & 5, 2019; Nov. 14, 2019; and June 4, 2020.
- Cheyenne: June 11 & 12, 2019; Nov. 19, 2019; and June 11, 2020.
- Worland: Aug. 5 & 6, 2019; Jan. 7, 2020; and Aug. 6, 2020.
- Gillette: Sept. 24 & 25, 2019; Feb. 25, 2020; and Sept. 24, 2020.

The University of Wyoming will host a literacy education conference with a focus on equity and literacy instruction.
The registration fee is $35.

The Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF) launches the 2019 competition, themed “Greetings!”
Students in secondary and post-secondary schools design and produce a printed greeting card for the occasion of their choice. Winners receive cash and other awards.

The National Association of Geoscience Teachers offers awards to faculty and students at two-year colleges and K-12 teachers. The Dorothy Stout Professional Development Awards support participation in Earth Science classes, workshops and field trips, and attendance at professional scientific or science education meetings. Awardees may also purchase Earth Science materials for classroom use.

The Voya Unsung Heroes program provides grants to K-12 educators nationwide that utilize new teaching methods and techniques that improve learning. Full-time educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, and classified staff employed by accredited K-12 public or private schools are eligible to apply.

The ASM Materials Education Foundation annually awards 20 grants of $500 each to help K-12 teachers bring the real world of Materials Science into their classrooms.
“Living in a Material World” grants recognize creativity and enhance awareness of Materials Science and the role that materials play in society.

As part of its education outreach mission, the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) provides support for optics- and photonics-related education outreach activities.
Applications are judged on their potential to impact students and increase optics and photonics awareness.

The CLIF Bar Family Foundation provides $7,000 grants that protect Earth’s bounty and beauty, reduce environmental health hazards, increase opportunities for outdoor activity, create a robust food system, or build stronger communities.
Grants are reviewed three times a year.

The Breakthrough Junior Challenge is an annual global competition to inspire students to think creatively about science.
Students ages 13-18 are invited to create and submit original videos (3 minutes in length maximum) that bring to life a concept or theory in the life sciences, physics or mathematics.
Submissions are judged on the student’s ability to communicate complex scientific ideas in engaging, illuminating, and imaginative ways.

Verizon Foundation funding is intended to support, among other things, projects that promote STEM, including summer or afterschool programs, teacher training, and research on improving learning in STEM areas through use of technology. |

Captain Planet Foundation ecoSolution™ Grants range from $500-$2,500 and are intended to support solution-oriented, youth-led projects that result in real environmental outcomes.

The Society for Science & the Public will welcome 200 science research teachers at all levels of experience to share best practices, troubleshoot any challenges they face in supporting students in independent science research, and learn more about the Society and the Regeneron Science Talent Search.

Wyoming high school incoming sophomores, juniors and seniors as well as 2019 graduating seniors are eligible to apply for one of three FBI Teen Academies:
- June 12 in Denver, Colorado
- July 13 in Laramie, Wyoming
- August 2 in Colorado Springs, Colorado
FBI Teen Academies provides an opportunity for high school students to visit an FBI field office and learn how evidence and hazardous material are collected at crime scenes. Students will also tour the gun vault, learn how SWAT executes arrests, and visit with FBI intelligence analysts, forensic accountants, linguists, and others. Students must submit an application, signed release form, and supporting essay.

The National Council for the Social Studies is organizing an institute to define advocacy priorities and advance organizational capacity to lead social studies in troubling times.
The institute will also focus on the role social studies can play in safeguarding democracy, bridging partisan divides, encouraging critical inquiry, promoting civil discourse, and inspiring civic action.

Christopher Newport University’s Center for American Studies presents a three-day workshop on American government and examining how “We the People” have shaped and crafted our legislative institutions into the system we know today.
Teachers will visit Historic Jamestowne for an onsite experience with archaeologists and historians, work with scholars, and shape lessons for their classroom.
