The Wyoming State Board of Education is seeking state residents to serve on the Computer Science
Standards Review Committee. The committee will develop K-12
Computer Science Content and Performance Standards that will become effective beginning with the 2022-23 school
year.
Those interested should complete the Call
for Participants Survey by May 14, 2018.

The Department of Education will collect community input for committee members to consider when creating the standards. The Community Input Survey will close on June 3, 2018.
Regional community input meetings are set for 6-8 p.m. at the following locations:

EL teachers and EL coordinators have the opportunity to learn how the
ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Score Reports provide important information about students’
academic English language proficiency. Participants will examine the different
types of reports available and each report’s function.

Participants will also discuss the connection between the score reports and the WIDA ELD Standards and Assessment System, and how these reports can serve as a tool to initiate discussion about instruction.

Open Range Wyoming is a statewide repository of openly-licensed educational resources (OER) that support Wyoming school districts and educators. A series of professional development webinars will highlight available resources.

This CTE workshop will provide a progression of tools that balance direct instruction and performance tasks. It will also allow educators to blend technical and academic standards and employability skills into alternative assessment that complements project-based learning.

July 9-10, 2018 in Laramie
The Wyoming Geographic Alliance will offer training for educators at the University of Wyoming. Presentations will focus on ways geographic concepts in the AP Human Geography course outline—region, pattern, place, space, and scale—provide insight into fundamental developments unfolding around the world.

Registration is free and a $50 travel stipend is available. 1.0 PTSB credit is available.
July 9-10 in Casper
The Wyoming Geographic Alliance is offering a Geo-Inquiry Institute at Casper College for middle-level educators.
Explore the Geo-Inquiry Process developed by National Geographic to engage students in local and global issues. A team of two teachers from the same school is desired.
Outdoor field work will take place at Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park in Casper. 1.0 PTSB credit and 1.0 optional UW outreach credit. Registration is open. $50 scholarships available to support travel.

The University of Wyoming’s College of Education and School of Energy Resources will provide professional development for integrating Wyoming K-12 science and social studies standards into energy literacy. Registration is open for the Re-Envisioning Wyoming Energy Education workshops.
Accommodations, meals and travel will be covered, and stipends will be offered. PTSB and UW credit will be available.

The Western Literature Association and Charles Redd Center are sponsoring two K-12 teaching awards enabling recipients to attend and present at the Western Literature Association Annual Meeting in St. Louis from October 24-27, 2018. Teachers must submit instructional plans that focus on any author or theme related to the literature of the American West.

The Institute for Curriculum Services is offering summer institutes on the Arab-Israeli conflict. Work with primary sources, learn from experts, collaborate with colleagues, and leave with classroom-ready, standards-aligned resources.
Institutes will be held June 10-12 in Orlando and June 18-19 in Los Angeles. Participants will receive a $300 honorarium for attending.

International Endangered Species Day is May 18, 2018 and offers biology, ecology, and other teachers an opportunity to educate students about the importance of protecting threatened and endangered plant and animal species.
The Endangered Species Day Toolkit includes event planning tips, stickers, bookmarks, fliers, a banner, passport, and coloring/activity sheets. The Endangered Species Day website features a Teacher Resource Center/Teacher Forum.
