Training for Residential Energy Contractors
- The Commission accepted public comment through July 19, 2024 on the staff memorandum regarding Wisconsin Training for Residential Energy Contractors (TREC) program's design and budget.

- It takes a lot of energy to get food to our tables. Wisconsin farmers working with Focus on Energy not only get financial incentives for their projects, they also receive technical assistance in the form of an energy advisor that guides them through all phases of their projects.

Federal Funding Opportunities
Contractor Registration for IRA Home Energy Rebates is Now Open
- The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Home Energy Rebates Contractor registration is now open. Current Focus on Energy Trade Allies and other Contractors are able to register for both programs, Home Efficiency Rebates (HOMES) and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR).
- The HOMES Rebate program is anticipated to launch shortly, and the HEAR program is anticipated to launch beginning in fall 2024.
- Before registering, it is recommended Contractors watch the HOMES program overview webinar and the HEAR program overview webinar to requirements of both programs.

American-Made Solar Prize Round 8
- The U.S. DOE Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) recently announced the 8th round of the American-Made Solar Prize is accepting applications to compete. $4.2 million dollars in prize money is available.
- The American-Made Solar Prize program is designed to spur innovations in the nation’s solar hardware and software technologies and address challenges to rapid, equitable energy solar deployment.
- Eligible parties include anyone based in the United States with a potentially marketable solar technology solution. Eligible entities can sign up on the HeroX prize platform.
- The deadline to sign up to compete is September 26 at 4pm CT.

U.S. DOE Issues Notice of Intent: $100 Million for Grid-Connected Buildings and Vehicles Validation
- The U.S. DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) released a Notice of Intent to issue over $100 million for field demonstrations and other research to improve electric grid planning and operation.
- EERE intends to issue three separate, competitively-awarded funding opportunity announcements (FOAs). The FOAs are to develop and demonstrate:
- Connected Communities: solutions for resilient, decarbonized communities, with an emphasis on affordable housing communities that have limited availability of distribution capacity for expanding transportation and building electrification.
- Solar Technologies Rapid Integration and Validation for Energy Systems: technology and market tools for better integration of distributed energy resources including solar, wind, and energy storage.
- SuperTruck Charge: managed charging at truck depots/hubs and truck stops that alleviate grid capacity challenges.
- The U.S. DOE plans to issue the FOAs by September 2024.

Sustainability Talks at Middleton Public Library
- The Middleton Public Library will be hosting a sustainability talk, “More Comfort, Lower Energy Bills: The Clean Energy Incentives for Homeowners, Landlords and Renters” on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 6pm CT in the downstairs Archer Room.
- The speaker, Kathy Kuntz, the Director of the Dane County Office of Energy & Climate Change, will discuss new IRA tax credits and rebates and how homeowners, landlords and tenants can leverage these incentives to lower the cost of clean energy projects.
