MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers and First Lady Kathy Evers today shared a video message wishing Wisconsinites a happy Thanksgiving and answering a few questions about their favorite Thanksgiving traditions.
Gov. Evers and First Lady Evers today also shared a list of things they are especially grateful for this year:
The governor and first lady’s video message is available here, and a transcript of the message is available below.
Governor: Hey there, Wisconsin. Governor Tony Evers here.
Kathy and I are getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, but first, we’re going to answer some questions from my chief of staff, Maggie.
Question: All right. What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?
First Lady: My mom used to make the best dressing—Thanksgiving dressing—and she put ground beef in it, which might be unusual. And then she’d grind the different parts of the turkey into the dressing, too. And it was just really good.
Governor: Can’t beat that.
Question: So, between the two of you, who cooks the better Thanksgiving dish?
First Lady: I think Tony is the chef in the family, especially for Thanksgiving. One time, he made Cornish hens on the grill for us.
Governor: And that was a Thanksgiving to remember—it was a real pain.
Question: Now, did you burn them?
Governor: No, I undercooked a few, and I had to put them back on the grill.
First Lady: You had to make like six or seven of them, quite a few of them.
Governor: It was a bunch, yes. Never forget that day.
Question: Now are you guys a pie dessert, or is it cakes, or ice cream?
Governor: I would say ice cream.
First Lady: Would you not have guessed that with Tony? I’m a pumpkin pie with some ice cream on it.
Question: Excellent choice.
Question: Now, is it called a casserole or a hot dish?
Governor: I would say a hot dish, right? Casserole means something completely different.
Question: Would you rather take first place in a Turkey Trot or first place in a pie-baking contest?
Governor: Turkey Trot. I don’t like pies that much to begin with, and I don’t make them, so Turkey Trot.
First Lady: And I’d say Turkey Trot because I know I’d beat Tony.
Governor: True enough.
Question: Now, if only there was a pickleball tournament. Maybe we need to start a Thanksgiving pickleball tournament.
First Lady: Yes.
Question: How are you guys spending Thanksgiving this year?
Governor: Gonna be quite the treat. I think everybody that’s part of our extended family is coming here, and so we have about 19 people, I guess, having turkey. The typical stuff that you do on Thanksgiving. And also playing Euchre.
First Lady: But we are going to have it here at the Residence, and we can all sit at the dining room table together. So, that’ll be really nice to see.
Question: What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving?
Governor: I’d say health is good for everybody in the family. So, I would say health.
First Lady: I would definitely say health, and then having each other.
Governor: That, too.
Governor: From ours to yours,
Governor and First Lady: Happy Thanksgiving, Wisconsin.
