Madison, Wis. – Today, the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) announced the launch of Wisconsin’s Beyond the Classroom Grants to support out-of-school programs serving school-age children across the state. Initially announced by Governor Tony Evers in April 2021, the program will provide reimbursements to organizations that offer educational and mental health supports to children ages 5 to 17. The new grant website is available HERE. The Beyond the Classroom Grants will provide funding of up to $1.5 million per non-profit organization for the 2021 summer and up to $1.5 million for the school year and summer of 2022 combined. Grant awards to an individual organization cannot exceed 25 percent of an applicant’s 2019 operating expenses. Up to $24.75 million will be available for programming during the summer months of 2021 and an additional $24.75 million will be available in the 2021-2022 school year and the following summer months. In addition to grants to out-of-school organizations, up to $500,000 will be available for up to two grants to organizations that provide technical assistance to out-of-school organizations. “Our children deserve every opportunity to succeed both in and out of the classroom,” said DOA Secretary Joel Brennan. “The Beyond the Classroom Grant program will help support organizations providing programming and mental health supports for kids all across the state. I’m grateful to Governor Evers for prioritizing Wisconsin’s kids with this grant program, in his executive budget, and throughout the last two years.” DOA will begin accepting applications for Beyond the Classroom Grants on June 18. Interested applicants can attend a webinar to learn more about the grant program and ask questions on June 25. Applications for the grant program are due July 8 and grants will be issued this summer. All interested organizations should sign up HERE to receive notifications regarding the Beyond the Classroom Grant program. Questions regarding the program should be emailed to BeyondtheClassroom@wisconsin.gov. Beyond the Classroom Grants will be funded through Wisconsin’s allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and will be administered by the Wisconsin Department of Administration.
